That is pretty adorable! I heard that when you are really good friends with a villager, and you sit next to them, they will smile at you.

Or when you come across a villager asleep on the bench.
Flurry ALWAYS does this and it is adorable.

Not only that. When you have a high friendship level with them, they will smile, like Flora is doing there. Before you attain friendship, they simply sit there without smiling. The first time they smile is SO rewarding and thrilling!

I try to put benches where my villagers tend to gather like near bridges or where several villager homes are kind of close together.

it's so adorable when you find villagers sitting on benches and stumps outside, especially when you catch them sleeping ^^
