Obsession with "Original" villagers

I'd prefer buying original so that they come with their own house and catchphrase for me to change later, but it's never been and never will be a deal breaker for me.

I like getting them original I guess because it's like they moved into your town on their own? and then you can change what you want about their houses and such. I like keeping things original because usually if they change something in their home it's probably a bad change. But, If 1 or 2 things are changed or the shirt is, I really don't mind c:

I personally don't care about originality. I honestly don't understand how it got started as a thing that exists as deal-breakers for people. For all ten of my dreamies, I have an interior design selected for them. It'll probably take a few IRL months to get everyone just right, and forever to maintain their houses. But ocne I have my Dream Address set up, it's not gonna matter what they have afterward, lol. Greetings become "S'up" or "S'up mate" and catchphrases become "sweetie" at the end of the day as well. I've adopted plenty of "well-loved" villagers, and just as happy with them as I would be if they were original, for me it's about the villager its self, not the items it possesses.

On the other end, I've had people outright tell me they are buying a certain villager from me specifically for the items in their house. And honestly, more power to them. At the end of the day, I can't control what happens to a villager after it's left my cartridge, it's no longer my choice what happens. I just hate when I give away a tier 1 or 2 villager just to see them resold a day later do to unavoidable "bad plotting" doesn't matter if you want to TT or not, it's not hard to load a second character and plot set. ._. Anyway, ranted there. Sorry about that.

i want some villagers original because when they are they usually look nice
julian and merengue's house are very nice and would be hard to change it back, and i hate seeing it full of sea bass

Personally, I don't really care. I would guess that some people like their villagers original so that they don't look really stupid when they arrive in your town

It wouldn't necessarily be a deal-breaker for me, but the fossils people sell them look just awful and I have yet to be able to get them out of a villager's house. If I could it wouldn't bother me at all. But for some reason they hold onto dem ugly thangs as if their lives depended on it! >_<

Still, if the villager is one I love I can overlook it. Pretty much. :)

its hard to have original villager useless its from campsite or maybe cycle ?

the villager changes catch phase by itself (from others villager phrase) and outfit too .

for me as long as the house doesn't look like a junk i am fine .

I don't like it when their homes become warehouses/aquariums but other than that I don't care much about originality. For that reason I usually turn down requests for bugs and fish and never give them something that would look out of place in their home. Bottom line: I'd rather have an unoriginal villager that I want than not have them at all.

i don't really care about how "original" they are.
as long as they don't wear something that looks bad on them, and their house isn't a mess, then whatever!
i guess people just obsess over original villagers because .. other people obsess over them and their originality is what makes them worth more in terms of selling. idk man

I don't mind them being a little unoriginal, but I can't stand when their houses are bombarded with fish, insects, and fossils :|

That's how Tom's house is actually in my town. He got rid of everything, to make room for all the fish and insects I got him, because when I just started the game I didn't know they fill their houses with things you get them, so his house is a gigantic mess and he won't get rid of any of it lol

I don't buy or sell villagers, so I don't really care what others do. However, I like my villagers to have cute houses on the interior. I tried replacing the items in their homes with a theme I liked, but it was just too much work. I've now decided to try to get them back to their original furniture. It's just for me, though.

I do a lot of other things for my villagers, so I don't feel bad about saying "no" to bugs or fish.

I think the only villagers I've made a continuous effort to keep is Wendy and Molly, and both I intend to sell when they want to move as I have no want for Molly (even though she's really cute), and I never wanted Wendy to move in. ene She surprised me and RUINED MY TREES IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE YOU STUPID SHEEP. But I don't really see the appeal of villagers who are original? Like I mean the point of the game is to have fun and socialize with your villagers. That seems pretty hard to do when you can't even up your friendship rank with them if you don't fulfill their requests. D:

I think it depends.

Personally, I just play the game without caring (I.E "as intended"). If a villager wants to buy an ugly looking couch and put it next to their rubbish TV, well, whatever, it's their house. If they want me to go and catch them a whale shark so they can put it near their front door, making it hard to get in and out of the house...well...whatever, that's what they want.
You don't go to your friends houses IRL and start moving their furniture around and telling them that you don't like their Slipknot shirt, you would prefer them to wear this shirt with a teddy bear on it instead. Why be so controlling over the villagers who are for the sake of the game, supposed to be your friends.
I just don't think it's right to rule the village with an iron fist and have all the villagers following your vision of perfection in their homes and outfits...It seems...so...Nazi Germany.

(But play the game how you want, it doesn't make a difference to me).

Buuuuuut I would pay extra for an 'original villager' since that way I would be safe in the knowledge that their catchphrase won't be "fudge packing thunder nuts" and their T-shirt doesn't have an image of male genitalia on it. I don't want to have to spend the time 'correcting' all the things some idiot has done to make these characters houses have the furniture arranged in the shape of a pair of breasts.

Yea, unoriginal and unique villagers are more fun to me if their catchphrases are still cute and their houses look 'lived in', but I think I would rather pay the extra money to not have something stupid and offensive in what is the only thing in my life that I want to keep sweet and innocent. Stupid and offensive can wait until I go drinking with friends.

I personally don't really care about their originality if I want to gain a villager from the Trading Plaza. Especially not their shirt or catchphrases, cause those are easily changed.

I like in interact with my villagers, so if they ask for a bug, I'll give them a bug. I do try, if they ask for any kind of fish, try to give them a small goldfish-size fishie, which usually looks cute in a home, instead of giving them a whale shark.

I can understand the appeal though, the originality of their houses. The house of Erik the Deer is cabin-themed. Like this:

Acnlhome90.png

And it fits him so well. If he goes putting in robo-themed stuff, it looks so weird XD Really, I've seen it happen.

So what I mainly do with my villagers is just let them buy and sell whatever they like, but if I get my hands on their items, I try to give it back to them at some point. Just to get a nice overall feel about how comfortable I will feel when I go visit them =) It's feel better to visit a cabin-themed cabin instead of a cabin with astro and robo furniture.

Fossils don't look good. Ever. And they are freaking impossible to get rid of. Bugs and fish don't bother me, but sometimes the fossil pieces do. Erg.

I can kind of understand it since now a days I do try to keep my villagers' houses looking decently nice. In most cases I don't have any issues keeping them that way, I can still interact with them just fine, I just don't do certain favors anymore. The only ones I've kept in default stage are Marshal and Julian, but that's because I like how their houses look. Though with Julian I customize the furniture he puts in Retail and then give them back xD cause the regal furniture in blue looks good in his room. It just depends on whether or not you care about how their interior looks, some do and some don't.

Honestly though I never have and never will participate in selling/trading villagers, I'd feel like I'm trafficking them ;;

I've never bought or auctioned on villagers so it personally doesn't matter much to me.

I can understand why people would care about it, though. It's like starting with villagers from scratch. In some cases, a villager's clothes are a part of their design and sometimes people like their houses (I think Julian is one of the villagers people want in an original state the most because of his furniture).

You can reset catchphrases but changing their clothes and furniture is trickier. When you send them clothes there's a chance that they won't wear them and will just display them in their houses. Furniture is even worse because sometimes the layout is random. Unless they ask you for something to replace a specific item, they'll just swap out something of the same size so sometimes it ends up looking weird. There are also items you can't buy when you visit them like fish and bug tanks. For both furniture and clothes, you need to be able to find and buy them or own them already. It's a lot more work, in short, so I understand why not everyone wants to go through that.

It's just a matter of personal preference. I don't think one is better than the other. There's no conspiracy, there's just the fact that if people are paying in-game bells or TBT for a villager they might not want to invest extra to fix stuff that could have been avoided.

You can't stop them from putting their furniture in Re-Tail

You can. You can put shells or fruit on Re-Tail marked 999,999 and they won't be able to sell or buy anything there.

Still doesn't stop them from mailing you crap, unless you want to get rid of your mailbox too for something as trivial as an item in a villager's home. Also, voiding out use of re-tail for the same reason is a steep cost. Personally I like villagers with pet sharks, adds curb appeal!

They rarely mail you things from their homes, Re-Tail, offering to sell you stuff when you visit and sending each other things through you is (in my experience) the most common way for them to change their furniture. There's no steep cost in voiding out use of Re-Tail unless you get a lot of money from selling things to villagers. You can still sell things directly to the shopkeeper (I can't remember her name).

I can understand that people would like to have the original, but like a few posters have already said, you can just change back their stuff if you buy an unoriginal villager! I personally just nab up my dreamies and let them live life the way they would like to, regardless of whether or not they stay original! To me its more about the villager themselves instead of the house!

I don't really care if a villager is original or not. Sometimes it is fun to add random items to their house. I like to send crazy things like the firebar or a cannon. Ed placed a cannon to the left of his door so it is right there when you walk in. It's hilarious! I also gave Bob a box of chocolates once because I didn't want it, but I didn't want to sell an unorderable item. :)

Personally I can understand both sides of the coin, I'm not a stickler for originality but I'm glad I got Knox from the campsite because the suit of armor in his home was something on my wishlist so I bought it first chance I got but I think his original house is really cool so I mailed it back to him right after. If I get his suit of armor again I might customize it in gold ore though, that would be way cooler than original because he is the gold knight after all but I didn't do it before because I was working on the gold set.

When I had Bruce I tried to replace all his furniture with high-tech looking stuff but he downright refused to change the basketball hoop. The reason I was trying to do this is kinda funny, you see due to his color scheme, cranky personality, gruff voice, and his name, I decided that Bruce was the Batman of Animal Crossing and I wanted to make sure he had the proper blinky technical stuff for crime fighting (and fight crime he did, he once told me he was patrolling the area because Bam said someone buried pitfall seeds around his house).

Whitney was mostly original when I got her except for a rainbow shirt in her home and the rainbow shirt she was wearing (someone wanted her to wear a rainbow shirt apparently). I got her to wear a corseted shirt (it looks fabulous by the way much better than her original clothes) and bought the rainbow shirt in her home and replaced it with something. I thought her bed looked a little boring so I bought that and customized it with a club shirt for fabric but I didn't like how that looked either so I sent her a gorgeous bed to replace it and I gave her a gorgeous chair to replace the rainbow shirt that was in the middle of the room (it faces the fireplace too so it looks perfect). I gave her a virgo harp at some point, it goes well with the classic furniture and it's her zodiac sign according to her villager pic.

I do tend to be upfront about when a villager I'm selling/giving away isn't original though even if their furniture isn't anything special, but when someone is seeking a dream villager sometimes they don't care when you say the house is total chaos (Francine's place was the worst; saw shark, golden woman, master sword and whatever insanity I happened to have in my inventory when she asked for furniture).
