Now that farming has been confirmed...

It's just for crafting though.

Technically the bushes are just for decorating. They don't really serve a big purpose either. I'm also pretty sure you can just grow and sell pumpkins for bells if you don't want to make them into anything. The game doesn't care if you sell crafting materials, so I don't see pumpkins being any different.

I'd make a farm area for the harvestables next to my planned hybrid farm.

I know, but I detest crafting with every fibre of my being, and wanted pumpkins as food items. Not DIY materials.

I'm not trying to dismiss you at all, but can you clarify what you mean between food items vs DIY materials? To me, a pumpkin is a food item since it can probably be dropped and used as decorations like you can with other crafting materials and other special crafting materials (heart crystals and bunny day eggs). But, I do agree that it isn't a processed food item like pumpkin pie or a pumpkin roll or pumpkin soup. And if you were hoping for more items like that, I can understand why you are disappointed.

It looks like we can also grow pumpkins and just leave them in a little pumpkin patch to leave for just pure aesthetics. So, if you just want to make a cute little pumpkin patch for decoration, you can totally do that!

Datamine found:
  • Tomato
  • Potato
  • Carrot
  • Pumpkin
  • Wheat
  • Sugar
Pumpkins are being added next week, and I can see tomatoes, potatoes and carrots being used for the Thanksgiving/Christmas update. Heck, even wheat and sugar could be used to some extent.

The potato ingredient makes me want to download an AOT outfit for Sasha if there is such a design and have my rep cosplay her and eat all of those potatoes when they are introduced.

I would love it with sugar being introduced, that the store hours would be extended (in addition to an expansion) and our villagers stay up later (seriously, lazy villagers especially should be staying up later and getting up later). Seeing the datamine list got me excited again lol. Maybe if we get cooking, we can actually use the pizza oven to make pizza :D. But trying real hard to just look at one update at a time and keep my expectations low. That sugar crop though... Lots of possibilities from sugar cookies for christmas to the sweet set for furniture.

Sorry got off topic. Thanks for sharing the list of the datamined food again 😊.

I'm actually rather disappointed. It's a great feature, don't get me wrong, but I have the same thoughts that I had a while ago. I don't want Animal Crossing to become more like Harvest Moon!

I'm sure it won't, but still. 😶 👍

In the meantime, I will definitely be adding pumpkins to my community garden.

i’m honestly a bit more excited than i thought i’d be; i’ve set up a spot for my pumpkin patch in my yard + i’d love for some more vegetables and crops to be added so that i can have my own lil farm area c’:

I'm not really disappointed.
The update looks great compared to the previous ones. ^_^

And yep, pumpkin pies were an item in NL (lots of food items). Food items are my favorite AC items. :)

The thing I'm curious about- will pumpkins be a year round "crop"? Or can they only be planted in October? If they add more veggies, will they be the same?

I read somewhere that the the pumpkin sprouts would be available in the store through October, but sold by Leif for the rest of the year. I don't know the veracity of that, but it makes sense especially if they plan on introducing more veggies in the future.

Actually, it's a really great idea. It gives a real purpose to stock up on supplies with Leif when he visits.

Ooh, that'd be great ☺

Thread cleaned-up. Reminder that if you have a problem with another user's post to please report their post rather than engaging that user directly, thank you. :)

It was games such as Harvest Moon and The Sims and their respective online communities that led me to discovering the Animal Crossing franchise for the first time, so seeing them expand upon gardening from just flowers to also include crops is pretty cool.

I don't mind this new feature I think it will be interesting to see how the farming works with the pumpkins. Especially if you are able to unlock DIY's instead of getting them by popping balloons.

I had plans to redesign my island but I purposely left my farm area intact because I knew this was coming. I’m really happy about being able to grow pumpkins for the first batch of crops (since I’m sure more will be introduced). I kinda wish the pumpkins full grown size was bigger than what was shown though, assuming those are the full grown sizes. Still cool though!

I almost wonder if it will be a new crop every season or maybe even month. I do like the idea of cooking treats for villagers to up their friendship level and I love how the crops can be used for crafting actual items. think of all the cute stuff we could potentially get in the future. I am so glad that pumpkins aren't locked to some people like the fruit trees were.
I hope for some fruits that aren't on trees like grapes blueberries raspberries and strawberries (however i hope we do eventually get banana trees). vegetables i hope to see in the future are cabbages, onion, gourds. I know they sound a little weird but I was thinking of cutesy things and especially fairytale things.

I know my mom is super excited for pumpkin farming at the very least; her favorite part of the game is gardening so the addition of more plants like flowers is a plus for her!

i'm very excited to start growing pumpkins everywhere and use one of the empty spaces on my island to start up a little dedicated farm!

I've been setting up my town more and realizing that I will have plenty of places to stick a little pumpkin patch here and there. I might have a couple of small ones instead of a big one. That way I can make a few community gardens that won't just be flowers.

I already built a farm in preparation for the update. I had to dig up so mane flowers weeds.

The biggest issue that I had was finding discreet music players to put around outside to play K.K. Hypno as mood music. I ended up going with the Bamboo Speakers recolored to Dry colors.

I also burned through my meager supply of regular Wood really quickly building fences and Garden Wagons.
