i just realized we don't get move out letters anymore. i assume it's because you have to talk to the villager in order to let them move, so the need for letters isn't there as they won't just pack up and leave, but i still feel like it would be nice to have them. they're nice to keep as memories of the villages you used to have in my opinion and i wouldn't mind getting more letters in general.
I do. Move out letters was actually the most common time I actually got villagers' pics in NL. But even when I didn't, it felt nice to get a final goodbye.
I definitely do miss them too. I wish they didn’t do away with them, as like the poster above mentioned, they were a good final chance to receive a villagers photo.
I think they should be brought back. That being said, I cared a lot more about what villagers I had in New Leaf than I do in New Horizons (e.g. I don't have a dreamies list for NH, but I did for NL), so I probably don't feel as strongly about this as someone who cares a lot about the villagers on their island.
I really miss move out letters. It gives you a sense of closure with the animals you moved out! The letters weren’t like a personal goodbye, but they allowed you to know they thoughts when they left! In New Horizons, it feels like villagers are like “See ya!” and gone. I don’t know, it’s just feels... awkward.
I miss them a lot. They were a nice final memory from villagers and a nice memory to keep.
That being said, I am very happy that villagers can't just randomly move out anymore (to my knowledge). Perhaps that's why move out letters were removed? Because villagers can't just up and leave anymore?
I recall someone had an idea of receiving letters from previous villagers from your island and I did love the idea of that. It would be nice if it worked in the same manner of how we receive letters from "mom". It would be nice for sentimental reasons. I would also love it if we could frame letters to be displayed!
Yup this is something I was quite sad about when I first noticed too. I usually like to keep the letters just to have a little memory of who has been in my town but now I just order the posters from harvs cabin and that’s it
I really wish move out letters were implemented into new horizons, it would make the move out a bit more reassuring, knowing that they’re out there somewhere living their best life and are wishing us well :’(
I honestly didn't think about the fact that the reason why move-out letters are gone now is because villagers won't move out randomly anymore! I've always just been careful about preventing move-outs, so that situation didn't even occur to me.
But yeah, I definitely agree that we should have move-out letters back despite the fact that villagers won't move out randomly. I miss them a lot! I've literally only ever let 3 villagers move out in my entire history of AC, and I've kept all 3 of those letters in my inventory at all times.
I don't like that we don't have NL's Town Tree history of villagers or move-out letters or the mechanic in NL where past villagers would visit Main Street. All those things are gone, so if a villager leaves, it's like they were never even here, which doesn't feel right. I'm honestly not sure if I want to move out any of my NH villagers, but I definitely won't if we don't get letters from it.
I'd love move-out letters back, and I'd also love that idea in an earlier comment of villagers sending letters randomly like Mom, and having them visit from time to time (without it being tied to a weird queue like in NL where you'll only start getting visitors once, like, 4 villagers have moved out). Just... something, anything.
I really miss move out letters. I always keep them since it helps me keep track of who moved out when and so I have something to remember the villager by, but it just adds something a little extra for me. Especially since the villagers disappear as soon as someone comes to adopt them rather than waiting until the end of the day so there's not a long of time to say goodbye to them.
I cycled through a lot of villagers in the first few weeks after NH came out while I was trying to get most of my dreamies and I've honestly forgotten a few of them by now. The other day my friend texted me asking if I used to have Gonzo on my island since she just got one move in and he said he was from Nara, and I didn't remember him at all. So moving out letters would be perfect to collect memories of the villagers who moved out (and maybe get their pictures too!)
