No Internet for Egypt

Egypt was so prosperous in the centuries that they weren't in contact with anyone due to geographical barriers protecting them from any outsiders(we're talking like 3,000-2,000 BCE here) I'm sure cutting off the internet for a few years couldn't hurt too much.

*I think you're forgetting something here, that was 4,011 years ago.
The Internet wasn't even invented back then...

i saw this while i ate my dinner/lunch. the reason they're protesting is because of the firing of all the cabinet members, or just because of the president in general? i didn't have sound, but read the titles they were throwing out.

first thing that came to mind was oceania/1984, and then
>come onto tbt
>internet is down for them
WELL, WAS NICE KNOWING YOU GUYS.

Jeremy, you sick twister pr.... lol jk

I seriously don't understand what the big whoop about Egypt not having Internet's about,... :S

It would help if you'd read the thread.

Me said:
It's not about them not being to go on Facebook or whatever.
It's the fact that the government is taking its attempts to limit free speech so far that they are preventing any contact with the outside world. It's censorship on one of the grandest scales. THAT is the issue here.

It's because of the president. He responded by firing all his cabinet members, but that's kind of missing the point because they want him out of office.

ah. k, i didn't get them in chronological order.

i lold when obama made a press statment saying, "the government should not use violence"

Man! you know what would be funny?!?! If some obese, over-weight, pale as a ghost, WoW addict was playing and he uonly needed 5 minutes to get his epic gear or whatever and *poof*! No internet.

Free speech.

{sigh} Some people won't know the value of something until that something is taken away from them.

I feel kinda bad, but it makes me happy I won't get random chat invites on imvu anymore from these guys ;-;

They pretty much closed off all access to the outside world. No phone access, no getting into or leaving the country, and this. This is ridiculous.

Just kind of jumping in here, but never before have I felt such a swell of pride in humanity. These people are willing to die for their rights- I can only hope that one day I will be that passionate about something in my life.

You sick and twisted prick!

You do know that people are missing their virtual pets, worrying their friends without video chatting with them, not partaking in online events, missing out on funny threads on their forums, and other fun things?
Some people are addicted, some people aren't addicted but love the internet more than necessary, and we shalt not mocketh them so! /lolwut

Maybe you care, but others don't. I sure don't.

By the way, from reading some of the replies, it seems many of you don't understand the magnitude of this situation- the government didn't just decide to throw the internet kill switch and that's it. We are on the brink of a revolution, here. Change the channel from MTV or Cartoon Network and read and watch about this. Think of it as the 'Berlin Wall' moment of this generation.

@ fabio, i used the word revolution to tell somebody else about it (IRL), but i later called it riots because revolution seems like it'd be exaggerating it.

i haven't watched anything of it since yesterday.

still reminds me of 1984 for some odd reason. for the reason of
oceania was more or less duped into believing there was always a war or something going on elsewhere in the world, which made them live in fear/etc

i mean.. it's tinfoil hat theory stuff, but it reminds me of it a bit too much for comfort.

who am i kidding. i'm just crazy.

they did it cause they where using facebook and twitter to plan things against the government, which is currently undergoing some major revolutions in egypt. goverment noticed so they were like "bam" and thats the end of internet for awhile.
