I've read a couple of these but I had to make my own to exorcise my own personal demons ;A;

Spork left the other day and, fearing a random move-in, I decided to go island hopping. I was hoping to find a Smug villager who would eventually replace Klaus. Allow me to explain why I simply Do Not vibe with Klaus: He is obsessed with Roman history. Every Romaboo I've had the misfortune to meet in real life has been a scumbag and kinda fascist. Now I get to watch this ultranerd of German ancestry wandering around my town in his toga like his niche history-larping lifestyle choices are normal. Sir, this is a Denny's. I wasn't planning to be picky. I didn't need Raymond or Marshal. Kyle, Kidd or Shep would have been welcome on my totalitarian micronation as well.

I had 40,000 Nook miles. That makes for 20 trips. Easy peasy, right? Wrong. Not only did I meet 0 Smug villagers, I met several incredibly rare and highly sought-after villagers that made my eyes glaze over with indecision too. Whitney. Fang. Dom. Vanessa. Merengue. Tangy. MARINA. But I kept thinking, "I don't wanna trade villagers, it feels weird now. I have x number of Nook mile tickets left, I know if I keep island hopping I'll find my Smug villager...." Reader, I did not. I just kept getting more of other peoples' dreamies. It got to the point that I was scrounging around my island grinding for more NMT to find at least another villager I liked, even if Marina didn't pop up again. After a run of some really bad villagers (frogs do not need lipstick), I ended up finding Stella. It was late by that point, so I welcomed her aboard.

Don't get me wrong, I love sheep, and Stella is adorable! But I can't help but think that I could have invited an octopus lady over and also gone to bed on time. If there's any lesson to be learned from this, it's that you should follow your gut and just make a compromise sometimes. Even if you don't meet the goal you had in your head. And also. I need to acquire weapons. I'm afraid Klaus is going to start gathering tribes to conquer the Mojave. I need to be able to stop him

That sounds like a bad case of what I would call "wrong luck". Your luck is good but it's not quite what you're looking for.

I've had my fair share of villagers that I've skipped that I keep thinking about. Kyle and Lobo being 2 of them D: Hopefully one day I'll see them again on an island and I'll invite them for sure.

Oh yeah, I've done this. Went dreamie hunting and I have 2 spaces that I don't have a decided villager for so if I met a non-dreamie I liked, I'd invite them. Well, I came across Keaton. He's not exactly popular but I thought he was cool looking but I had 7 or so tickets left so I moved on. Mistake. The rest were all ugly villagers I didn't want at all so I was sad I left Keaton. It really is a gamble, no matter how many tickets you have.

ripppp op. my sympathies. the island hopping mechanics just seem very skewed to me, it and stories like this (sorry haha) make me really glad i have never done it aside from the required first 3. and i only spent like...7 tickets on those lolll.

Awww I wish you better luck for next time! Yeah, this is a case where your luck was good, just not what you wanted :(

Before I realized that letting house plots autofill will land me the personality type I'm missing, I bought 7 miles tickets for myself to try to find a snooty villager. No dice and on trip 7 I took Spike home. He's a nice guy and all, but I really need a snooty and I'm not getting the right villagers to ask to move out...

Something similar happened when I was using the campsite method for Pietro. I didn't have a smug villager at the time and was getting smug after smug until Raymond showed up in my campsite. I'd never given him any kind of thought since I wasn't interested in buying or trading for him, but I didn't want to say no to him either, so I stopped Pietro-hunting and invited Raymond in. Ended up using an amiibo for Pietro a couple days later. Personally, I'd rather pick up a tradeable villager that I don't want so that I can switch them up for someone I do want later on. Taking the gamble is just too stressful and there's a good possibility of ending up with regret.

if it makes you feel any better, marina is super common so you'll find her again
