I saw some video talking about the datamines and something was hinting towards real estate. Perhaps we may get something like Happy Home Designer and we get to redesign houses. Would be really nice if we could redesign their houses.

I honestly thought that “starter interiors” was intentionally made boring because they were special and we would be able to directly change their furniture or something like that. I quickly learned that that was not the case lol. It sucks now that I’ve seen the interiors of some of my early villagers but I’ve already grown attached to them and don’t want to move them out. Thankfully the lazy log/cabin furniture room looks good with my first lazy Erik but Im starting to feel like I‘m missing out on something when I visit my villagers Scoot, Ursala, Jambette and Tabby. I like them all too 
I feel like this mechanic is a huge miss for me. I don’t even understand why they would make them like that. It doesn’t help that villagers are STILL stubborn with displaying furniture and items in this game even though I thought it would work differently in New Horizons. What’s worse is that they don’t even display certain small items on tables and just chuck em on the floor.

actually, the more i think about it. the more possible that datamine is. new horizons furniture will arrive in a slow roll out, i'm certain villagers should have new furni (or ability to change their interior) in the future. even looking at the current interior designs right now, it's very repetitive. a lot of rattan's for snooties with just different colors. this was the effect of older series not returning (rococo, regal, classic etc.)

It is annoying. They get their original exterior, so why not the interior too?
I guess the idea behind those villagers keeping the simple interior is because we, the player, contributed it to the house as part of the tutorial. Although I must admit, I don't recall if the interior contains what I crafted for that house specifically... I remember making some cherry DIY and there is a cherry item in one of their houses.

A really, really easy fix to this would be to let us gift wallpapers and flooring and have the animals use them. If they did that it would be possible to replace everything in their houses with enough time. It would also let the people who like the starter houses keep them.
I've gotten almost all of the horrible kiddie stuff out of Cherrys house, but she is forever stuck with random blue walls.

I don’t mind the lazy, peppy, and normal houses, because at least they look like functional home interiors even if they aren’t unique. But the jock and Uchi houses are ridiculous. I reset a couple times to get starter villagers I enjoyed because I thought I’d want to keep them around since they would be going on this journey with me, building up their homes as the marketing indicated. As it turns out, Hazel and Antonio will never have non-table furniture, flooring, or wallpaper. Antonio’s house looks nonsensical and honestly makes me feel like the development of this mechanic was lazy and boring. Why on earth, after six weeks, would Antonio not bother to buy and use a single roll of wallpaper when my other neighbors move in a household of belongings overnight? It breaks immersion and makes me feel guilty and sad—who would want to stay in such a barren house forever? It’s an empty white box with a few pieces of unfinished wooden furniture.
My Lazy, established early, is Erik. He has this house. It looks good for him. It does not look good for all other Lazy islanders.

This would be amazing. Decorating villager houses is fun. That's why I enjoy HHD even though there's less to do in it in general.
Having to hope a villager puts something somewhere, or that they DON'T put something somewhere, is really irritating. I gave you that shirt to wear! Don't put it on the wall or on a mannequin!

I kinda agree with you people. The only "good" thing about those starters houses is that it could fit some villagers. Take Bud, for example. His house is meant to be all summery and beach theme, but that way really stretches what I could give to him for his house. I actually like the basic house for him, tbh.
