Um...why is its placement bad? It's in the same spot that the D-pad was in on the Nintendo DS. But, because the 3DS is backwards compatible, they still needed to keep the D-pad, so they moved it below the slide pad. It's just like the GameCube controller. I don't see how it's a "bad" placement in any way... Where else is there to put it?! Also, the design isn't final, so they may end up moving it before it's released. I hope they don't, though, because it's perfect right where it is.
1. It's bad because people normally hold the DS from the bottom and not the middle, where the analog stick is.
2. Put it below the D-pad.
3. Except the Gamecube controller had the analog stick above the d-pad.
4. I hope they move it.

1. Um...what? I just held my DSi XL, and I can tell you that it doesn't matter
how you hold it, your thumb should definitely be able to reach the slide pad. I'm using a freaking DSi XL, much larger than the 3DS will be, and my thumb has
plenty of room to use a slide pad. And the way I hold my DSi XL, or any other DS, is the same way I've seen everyone else hold theirs. How is it even possible to hold it a different way? There's pretty much only one way to hold it. Anyways, look at
my thumb placement when I hold mine. My thumb rests nicely on the D-pad, which is where the slide pad will be on the 3DS.
2. Why? That would just make it harder to reach, because you'd have to bend your thumb down to reach it. Of course, it's definitely possible, but it's slightly inconvenient, and that's why they moved the D-pad there, because it will likely be far less used than the slide pad.
3. That's what I said...
4. Why would they?
