Next Game?

So I get how this can be a big issue to you guys, but aren't you two taking the arguments a bit overboard? Besides, i don't think you should let the issue of skin color get in the way.
If the default skin color for every character in the game was a level 5 tan, would you be of the same mind?

Um, it is.

The game is made in Japan where almost nobody even has so much as a decent tan, that's why many Japanese games or other media almost never have darker characters. Developers make what relates to themselves or the demographic they're targeting. Heck, it's taken Pokemon almost 20years to have the option to make darker characters and that's only because not only is it a global giant of a franchise, but it's starting to take place in different settings of the globe as well.

Sure, I agree skin options should be in the game even from just a customization perspective but it's not like it's not directly there because of any negative racial issue.
But the game is imported to countries that do have a broad range of skintones, and if Nintendo can make new events and special items for these countries they can add the feature of changing skin colors.

I'm going to quote a New Leaf blog, found here.

Who can say that Nintendo is really being exclusionary when they've clearly established that the boy and girl in the AC series are distinct "characters" and not true avatars? As demonstrated with the Smash Bros reveal at E3 (not to mention that their appearances have remained static in all four AC titles), the AC Villager is an individual, though nameless, member of Nintendo's bastion of characters. It's sort of like Link in The Legend of Zelda series"

The Villager is a character of his or her own. You can name him or her, but it is not a true avatar. The Villager is a character. His or her race is white.

Bigger town is a must, and they could allow, instead of plastic surgery, make it by magic. Magic does exist kind of, with Serena summoning axes.

This is a very good point! This game was not developed in America, and Japan is a very, close-minded country you could say, when it comes to foreigners. You don't have to get so defensive about it and I hope it doesn't affect your gameplay in a negative way.

EDIT: Ninja'd by oath2order :P

If that's true, then why is eye color, eye shape, hair style, clothing (shoes, dresses, pants, socks, hats) and hair color customization an option?

I don't know why so many of you are pushing back against the idea of simply changing skin colors, or trying your darndest to prove why it doesn't matter.

Sorry, I just don't find that an acceptable excuse. You can change hair color, eye color, facial features... Those are all very specific characteristics to be able to change on something meant to be a static character. You're also implying with this argument that, while altering a character's appearance in any other way doesn't constitute changing the character itself, changing the skin tone does? Now, why is that?

And I'm sorry, but the fact that most people in Japan have pale skin is not an acceptable excuse either. Most people in Japan also don't have blue or green eyes, but they added that to the game. And the game was not developed to be marketed solely in Japan either way.

Because I'm tired of hearing the whining about it.

Anyways, let's move on from this. We can talk in the specific thread for race if you want. It's getting off topic, and I don't want the mods to lock this :/

So what you're saying is that we should sweep the entire issue and every person who is affected by it under the carpet because their skin color isn't as prevalent in Japan?

I don't think "negative racial issue" was ever a problem in this thread, we are simply saying that people deserve to be able to choose, especially in a game built so heavily around your character and who you want them to be.

The Villager is a character of his or her own. You can name him or her, but it is not a true avatar. The Villager is a character. His or her race is white.
You seem so defensive about keeping "The Villager" Caucasian it's starting to make you sound like you're actually against the possibility that someone may want it to be otherwise.

It's not "whining," these are perfectly valid complaints being brought up and you're being embarrassingly disrespectful with your ignorance simply because it doesn't affect you personally.

You guys I'm geniunely sorry. This game is heavily based on cutomization and there is no good reason that it isn't in there but for now it's not. All we can hope is that it will be in the next game so can we move on? I don't want this thread to be locked either.

Uh, pretty sure I never said it should be swept under the rug. At all. Never even implied it.

Okay, this argument about skin color customization is kind of silly. I do agree that a skin tone option would be nice and there is no real excuse for it not being available. However, we can live without it if it isn't included in the next entry of the series.

Anyway, I would like to see interactive furniture.

Um, I agree, can you guys take the argument to another thread? This is about what we want to see in future games. Arguing on the internet is so stupid and pointless, really. Take a step back and ask what you are really doing anyway. It's not worth commenting. You'll just make yourself angrier and aggravate people who want to stay on topic.

ON TOPIC:

I also want to be able to create custom designs for socks and shoes. The selection is a little limited at the moment. Maybe you could choose from 5 or 6 shoe types (sandal, sneaker, high heel, etc.) and sock length/style and then design it. That would be cool.

Aaah I seriously hope they do this sooner or later. Would be so awesome, didn't even think of that.

I also like the bat villager idea that came up earlier.

People are all saying that we should have so and so new villagers
But say if you wanted a turtle, you have got tortimer!
In the new version I would want a way of getting round quicker...
maybe a golf buggy!!!!

To new leaf, they change that can switch the camera in villagers homes (and your own one) kike you want. Why they dont do that for outside? Theres in every animal crossing a fixed camera. I would like too see a house from the backside, go forward to a beach and so on.

Second thing is that i want an opportunity that 2 people who live in the same town can play at the same time. I think its silly that u never see the people who live next to you.. i thought they will add this to new leaf, because the 3ds have a download thing, but they dont :(

10) Make it so public projects aren't 100% random. There have been reports of players going at least 2 weeks before getting any new ones. There needs to be a clearer method to obtaining projects.
There are ways to increase your chances of getting new ones. Having no items or money helps.

Is this actually confirmed or just a rumor?
