New Smash Bros Brawl Sequel Possibly Leaked

Then play your gamecube games on your gamecube..
SockHeadThat's kind of not the point...
I have always known Nintendo to allow at least some backwards compatibility.

Nintendo Wii > Nintendo Gamecube Games
Nintendo DS Lite > Gameboy Advance Games
Nintendo 3DS > Nintendo DS Games

The Nintendo Wii U is quite obviously looking powerful enough to be able to play both Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii Games.

From that it's that they only go back 1 time. WiiU is something else, so it'll only go as far back as the Wii games.
Just because it's more powerful and able to run games doesn't mean it should.

So do you think the Gamecube should have been able to play SNES games? While that would have been cool Nintendo is sorta trying to get away from their 10 year old console.

A new SSB game would be pretty cool, but I usually play the game for 8 hours non stop when I first get it, then play it off and on until I just stop playing...
Also, forget about the WiiU. I barely ever play the normal Wii, so I'm not spending a ton of money on a game system I will probably play for one day, then never touch again :/ Plus, I also haven't heard of any of the games it will have.

I'm sure the reason they're taking out GameCube compatibility is because if they kept it, they'd also have to keep the GameCube controller and memory card ports in the Wii U. To slim down the system, cut costs, and make everything completely wireless, it's necessary. You can't keep all backwards compatibility forever. If that was the case, imagine how big and ugly our home consoles and portable systems would be with all those extra ports for older cartridges and such.

Just play your GameCube games on your GameCube or Wii.

backwards compatability only came into play coming out of the gamecube onto the wii, for consoles. nintendo handhelds have pretty much always had backwards compatability, save for the game boy micro and the dsi onwards, due to obvious lack of gba/accessory slot.

to say that nintendo is a company you have come to expect backwards compatability from is silly, since literally none of their consoles have been backwards compatible, until this last generation. sony's been good about that thus far, but when your game media is the same size/shape all the time, it's kinda expected. which i guess is where you're coming from when you think the wiiu should be gamecube compatible, but still, there's a lot more than "just make it play this disc, too."

emulation teaches a lot about just how a system works, and just how it doesn't. it's harder than you'd think, and adding parts so that old games don't get left behind when they still work perfectly fine on their console is not cost-effective, since those who want to play old games most likely own the old systems to play them on. in my opinion, at least.

but yeah, smash bros. general, whatchu know about ness confirmed for ever smash bros. ever?

Whether this rumor is true or not, Sakurai has said that he hasn't started thinking about characters for the next Smash Bros. yet, and won't until Kid Icarus: Uprising is finished. But I'd say Ness is safe. Why would they remove him?

As this is Ness’s third appearance in a Smash game, I imagine he’s quite the veteran fighter at this point. Maybe he’s even used to this by now.
