New Leaf on 2DS?

The display screen on my 3DS XL is broken. For the cost of repairing it I’ve been thinking of just picking up an old 2DS, the flat one that doesn’t bend, that I’ve seen go for $50-$70. Does anybody have any experience with new leaf on it?

I’ve been playing on a 2DS for years and it’s suited my needs so I like it. It’s basically a 3DS without the 3D or typical folding feature that other DSs have.

The 2DS is the only console that I've played ACNL on it and it's all fine. In my opinion, the ergonomics on the 2DS are the best out of the entire 3DS family, it's comfortable to hold for long periods of time.

There's nothing in New Leaf that really benefits from the 3D, so I think a cheap 2DS will be a fine replacement, perhaps even better than an original 3DS if your 3DS spends more time at home than on the go as mine does. However, if you have any games (such as the 3DS Xenoblade game) that greatly benefit from the added RAM, I'd opt for the New 2DS. It will cost you more, but it's still notably cheaper than buying a new--or even used--3DS XL.

I had a 2DS before it too broke. It worked for all of five years. Plus you don't have to worry about the hinges which is how my first 3DS broke.

The only downside with the 2DS is the inferior battery, it goes dead faster than I would like but other than that I have owned one in the past and had no issues with it. It's comfy, kind of cool in it's odd design despite many hating it and certainly plays animal crossing just fine. You may find he controls way more comfy too, it is a great system.

I've had a New 2DS XL for 1,5 year now after having played on the same old (in the meantime also bricked due to failed homebrewing ) regular 3DS for about 5 years, and it was obvious that the latter's battery life also depleted way quicker, no matter for how long I used it.
Compared to how often I had to charge my old 3DS, I only have to charge my current 2DS XL a few times a month or so, and I also kind of presume that is because of the size of the console, if you compare it to the situation of the battery lives of the regular Nintendo Switch and the Lite version. (Not that I have either of these consoles, but the Switch Lite trailer (I think) showed me details including the different battery lives of those two consoles.)
Back to the point, I've enjoyed (and am still enjoying) playing Animal Crossing (as well as other games, of course) on the 2DS XL a lot more than on my old 3DS, so I surely do recommend it to purchase it, plus, its common selling price is also becoming cheaper throughout the years! (At least, that's what I noticed when looking at the different web shops where they sell/sold 2DS XLs throughout the years.)
