Sooooo, my copy of New Leaf happens to be a digital copy, and being the big game it is New Leaf takes up a good amount of space on my SD card. 3000 blocks! I've been downloading lots of stuff from Eshop recently (and I plan to download smash) and the game has been interfering with that because of how much space it takes up. And I don't want to delete it because apparently you can't back the game up!

So I'm asking if theres some kind of alternative method to backing up my save, I don't wanna lose everything!

Think the only solution is to get a bigger SD card or play a physical copy of it.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything you can do to backup your ACNL save data. ACNL is just one game that the backup saves feature won't work, and messing with the save file in the SD card in any form may lock you out of your town permanently. I'd really avoid doing anything with it unless you do a complete system transfer to a new 3DS.

The way the game handles saves and loading the game is unique. From what I've read, every time you save your game, it generates a new, random "Save ID" and stores that data in both the SD card and the 3DS's system memory. Trying to load a save with mismatched IDs will result in being forced to wipe the save. With games like ACNL, I don't trust digital copies and saves on an SD card. If your SD card somehow dies, then your town permanently goes with it...
