He's ready to transfer his data but I have seen some horror stories of people losing their data. He has a Town he's had for a year which has some of my old villagers plus Smash Bros data and other data since he was 7.
We researched the ways to transfer data from the IGN video. Which one is the safest way without corrupting his data? He would be very upset if he lost his data. Thank you in advance.
I'm p sure you can create save backups on your 3DS to your computer, right?
There's only one way to transfer your system from one console to another...
Also, there's no "right or wrong" way to do it. If your data happens to become corrupt then that's just bad luck. I'd recommend him to do it as soon as possible so that his games are moderately up to date with the latest firmware on the new 3ds.
If you have a PC, you can save backups to your computer. Just make sure the DS is off and you remove the SD safely once finished on the computer.
No PC - follow the on-screen prompts on both DS systems for a system transfer... it's hard to mess up. Unless you're deliberately pulling out the SD / powering-off, etc. I just recently did a system transfer and it was all fine and dandy.
One of the suggested ways was via wireless which seems quite safe. There's a video by IGN that shows 3 methods..... He played it Yesterday and it hasn't asked for a system update for a while but he hasn't updated the software for Smash for a while. Should he update it on the old 3DS or the new one?
You're going to have to update both systems before the transfer can happen. I did the wireless and it works fine. Just go into settings > (find) system update and when you're ready to transfer, do the same, except pick... system transfer.
His system is updated. It's his Smash Bros software. It's at 1.0.5... (I think that's what it's called). Should we bother to update it on the current 3DS or do it on the New 3DS?
Happy it worked out. Some people have had problems because they didn't have a large enough Micro card in the NEW 3DS.
They used the one that came with the system. When they transferred all the games moved except for ACNL.
I have bought a larger Micro card before I started playing with the New 3DS. I didn't do a system transfer because I wanted the digital copy to stay on the old 3DSXL.
