In 2018 the creator's of the show were brought on as executive producers and showrunners. Originally Netflix made a pledge to support the creator's creative vision. Recently they've quit over creative differences. They did release statements about this, I'm trying to find those.

The creators need to be involved. We already saw the disastrous result of when they are not involved or have any say whatsoever. *cough*M Night Shyamalan*cough cough cough cough*

I'm personally sticking to the animated series. I've had it with them live actioning every animated movie or tv show ever made.

I'll be genuinely surprised if this ends up being good, much less comparable to the original.

I don't even have to look up the release date, since I'm sure I'll get at least a hundred angry rants about it recommended to me on Youtube the day it releases.

I always dread when Netflix wants to do a live-action of anything. In all fairness, I haven't even seen any of them. I just don't like when they take precious animated series into live action. I definitely think it's not worth resuming at this point without the original creators. It's not even Avatar anymore without that.

My brother and I were were talking about this earlier. He wants it to be darker and grittier, but I'm not sure that's going to bode well for it being based off a kids show. Though the show had a kind of dark premise with some heavy themes (genocide, kidnapping, brainwashing, POW, manipulation, etc) it was still being shown through the eyes of a child and had some light hearted comedy to balance it out. It really depends on the actors they choose and what tone they are going for (I hope they do Sokka justice)

If they just remake it the same exact way then what's the point really?

Live action versions of cartoons usually don't end up good so if this turns out good I'll be shocked.

wait wait wait, so is the live action still happening? im one of the minority that actually looks forward to this

Also unpopular opinion but, I liked the live action avatar movie and think its good dont come at me. I was 12 back then when it came out and i was too young to notice the injustice they did to the movie but the fondness of the movie stuck with me over these years

Honestly, after the disaster that was Netflix’s live action Death Note, I have zero faith in this adaptation. The more greedy, creatively bankrupt companies try to do live action adaptations of cartoons, the more I’m convinced it shouldn’t be done. Why not just make something original in the same vein?

I’m actually with your brother on this. I really want to see the world of Avatar, but like, with Game of Thrones style politics and intrigue. I think that has the potential to be truly epic. They could chose a past avatar and flesh out their backstory! That’s never gonna happen though, considering they’ll probably want to keep this adaptation as family friendly as possible.

I was very disappointed when I read the original creator's statements; it makes me very worried for the show. As a huge Avatar fan, I'll try watching anything they make. I just hope they've learned from that horrendous original live action film they release several years ago. If the live action show turns out anything like that, it'll be a big no for me in the long run. I'll watch it to give it a chance, but that's about it.

I do think the Avatar world has a huge possibility to carry a big epic show, like Game of Thrones, as others said. I just hope they don't squander this opportunity by not listening to what a majority of the fans want, like they did with the film. I think if they force ahead and make a show about the Aang gang as children without the original creators, it will breed resistance amongst fans. Without their original vision, I'd hope they would take the show in a different direction and either follow another Avatar, or adapt some of the materials from the comics or something. Likely, though, they'll continue on their present course. We'll just have to wait and see what happens!

Yikes, I was really looking forward to this and kept checking in on updates every since they announced this. Such a disappointment and waste of potential.

i really just dont think cartoons can be made into live action films/TV shows well (Disney sucks with it especially). i thought the last airbender as really bad and i think the lack of creators will make it even worse, but i didn't think it would be amazing. you just lose a lot of whimsy and suspension of belief when it becomes live

I felt really sad when I saw the post on instagram by one of the creators, I believe it was Michael, and I just felt so sad. If I remember correctly, he had mentioned the direction of the film wasn't going in the creative way he and Bryan had originally thought, which sounds like it was turning out like another "The Last Airbender" by M. Night Shyamalan, and sadly, nobody wants that again.
I didn't mind the movie, but I don't agree with a lot of things the movie did. Soundtrack was a beauty though.
I really hoped for this one and have been waiting for it since it was announced for the making of, but that's okay, I'd prefer the directors and creators to be happy with what they create and want it to be special.

I just know whoever is developing this movie isn't going to do a proper casting based on race. Despite there are several Inuit (Water Tribes) or Nepalese (Air Nomads) actors, I think they will cast completely different ethnicities to make the movie "move diverse".

God, I hope I'm not the only one getting cringeworthy memories of that The Last Airbender film from 2010.
