Net won't break during bug-off match?

I was blazing through bug-off matches to build up my points and I noticed something. Catching 10+ bugs per match, surely my net would break at some point, correct? Wrong. Even though I caught over 30 bugs with my colourful net (which should have broken by now), it still hasn't broken on me during the bug-off matches I've been playing. However, as soon as your three minutes are up and you catch a bug with your net with 30+ catches, it will break. I caught a bug right before the timer ended and the net I used to catch over 30 bugs got destroyed. I noted that I caught 54 bugs with a colourful net that started at full durability without using a customization set.

From my experiment, it seems like your net will still degrade, but won't break if you're in the middle of a three minute bug-off match. Catching a bug outside of that match with a net with over 30 uses will instantly break unless you customize it beforehand. If you think about it, it's pretty beneficial! At least you won't have to fear your net breaking in the middle of a match. Just keep in mind to customize it after to restore some durability. Can someone else also test this to see if I'm not the only one? Now I'm curious if this applies to the fishing tourney as well.

Fishing tournament works the same way. As long as you don't try to reel in a fish or catch a bug after the time limit, the tools don't break.
