Heya, I wanted to know if you need to prepare a free slot with nook in your island in order to meet new villagers and invite them on mystery islands.

Yes. You need open plots for them.

You need a free unsold plot on your island BEFORE you begin going on Nook tours in order for villagers to even appear.

As a side note, I've heard that, after the first three villagers to move in, only one island villager can be invited per day.

Can you invite more than 1? I have 2 plot currently. I invited Avery but the next island was empty. So is there a limit maybe?

you can only invite one per day.
