Ok so. I'm an advanced player. Know about villager plot resetting, stopping villagers from moving, time traveling, etc. Played New Leaf a lot when it released. I have the perfect town I worked so hard to create. The villagers I want, plot reset all of them into locations I want, paths everywhere. I haven't played my file in 3 years. And I honestly don't remember if I stopped a villager from moving before I went on hiatus. So I'm afraid the town will be ruined. This is kind of why I didn't play it again for so long. But obviously with New Horizons on the way, I feel like jumping back into New Leaf before March.

So thats the main issue. I don't remember if I stopped a villager from moving. What is the worst that can happen if I just start the game up right now? Will all my villagers be gone and replaced with new ones?

I have a date written down on a piece of paper inside the cartridge case. I'm like 80 percent sure this date is the last time I played the game. Don't know why else I would have that date written down. So I'm thinking I can also change the 3ds clock back to that date and hope things turn out better.

What should I do?

honestly, i don't think there's much you can even really do.
you would probably have to plot reset again, unless you still have paths out.
do you remember if you still have paths everywhere?
and unless you're emotionally attached to your game, i would restart if you don't feel like doing all that work. as you probably already know, plot resetting is wayyy easier when your town is bare, and new.
but that's just if you were already thinking of starting new.
be sure to let us know what happens! i hope everything goes well. :(

Here is a post with directions for a process on what to do if you are unsure if you stopped anyone from moving last you played. It will only work if you happen to have an extra character slot for deletion. Otherwise, you may be at the mercy of what the game gives you. Anyhow, hope all goes well! Also, you can check the activity log for the exact date you last played if you are unsure.

Thank you so much for that topic. And the activity log, genius. Why didn't I think of that. I'm gonna play in a few days. I'll keep you posted on what happened.

Sometime I start as a new character and check the bulletin board and sort through that until something is familiar.
Yes, the activity log will tell you the last time you played.

Yeah, only the one villager will be moved out. I recomend creating a new character to test it out, you might even be able to check if someone else has moved in or plot reset them this way. I have an extra town right now I use to get seasonal sets (mush set, weeding day set etc) for my main town and most of the villagers stay in place even if I travel a year forward (which I did, to get the New Year's day gifts from Isabelle)

Try the plot reset method but just to check what's happened in your town. If you aren't against time travelling, worst comes to it you could probably set your ds time to a few years a ago, stop a villager from moving and put it forward again.

Although, that might be a bit much if you don't like time travelling.
