My tools are gone?

So I left my tools on the ground for about 2 days, since I was selling a crap ton of fruits at retail and needed space in my inventory, and now they're missing? I was wondering if after a certain amount of days the game just gets rid of random items on the ground, or if villagers just whisk them away to the magical land of Narnia?? Also, has this happened to you before???

do you have a police station? i know in the old games when you left items out too long, they'd end up at the police station.

check lost and found? did you have any visitors? I had someone steal my gold set last week and replace it with regular crappy tools...

Did you leave them by the town tree? If your placement was unfortunate they may have been crushed by Katrina/Fishing Tourney/Redd/whatever. If that was the case they *should* show up in your police station.

Maybe your tools got sent into the police station. It happens if you put your items under the area where the NPCs love their tents.

Well I do have a police station and it was the first thing I checked when I couldn't find them, they weren't there and I even asked copper but all he said was Red was in town.

Try clearing your police station and then going there again. If all space is occupied already, there is no space for your tools.

No police station is actually pretty barren, it only has a maple umbrella

Assuming your stuff got crushed by Redd, a new villager, something like that, it should turn up in the police station tomorrow. If it doesn't then another player has taken them as villagers can only affect the town in a very small number of ways and picking up items isn't one of them.

Any item can be left on the ground indefinitely, including stuff such as fruit and paper than in reality would go rotten and soggy.
