Museum gift shop?

Since I started my new file, my museum gift shop just won't open. Blathers isn't in his thinking stance when I walk in, and i'm pretty sure I've met the criteria to unlock it. Here's what I've done:

-Been mayor for 14 days (probably more now)
-Donated (at least) one item to each category
-Have donated over 20 items to museum in total (most is fish)

Am I missing something here to get blathers to request the project?

I'll take a shot, but I know somebody with more knowledge will correct me if I'm wrong.

The Gift Shop sells items, and iirc almost all celebrate at least 15 fish or fossils in the collection. So...if you've only donated 20 or so items in total, that would not be enough for Blathers. I think you need more fish and fossils than you currently have.

Are you sure you've donated something from each category? Including paintings? Paintings can be tough to come by at the start of the game. Hm strange, I'd keep donating & he'll hopefully bring it up eventually

Have you talked to him for the 14 days that you've been mayor? I've been browsing a couple of threads, and they say that may be one of the factors :c
