right i know this topic comes up a lot and that a lot of people have towns comprised of all one species. however i am curious: for those who have a diverse-species town, does 2+ of the same species feel like too much? do you get tired of seeing the same species a lot or does it not bother you?

i currently am trying to pick out a new lazy and a new jock. out of all the lazies and jocks my favorites are definitely broccolo and rod, but i also have bree as my snooty and i worry that three mice will be overkill. but they are so cute ;~; i just fear i will get bored of having all these mice running around rofl.

i also like having a diverse town. i just wish there were cuter villagers in each species/personality type :/

I had 2 eagles and 3 ostriches and will soon be 3 eagles and 2 ostriches. It doesn't feel like too much because they all had different personalities and their looks are very unique from each other.

I think for me it depends on the species. I had three hamsters at one point and it was definitely too many. I like the more wild species though rather than the domestic ones. I also had two rhinos at one point and it wasn’t too many. And I currently have two wolves and two tigers(although Bianca is technically a snow leopard). If you adore the mice than it might not bother you so much. I just wasn’t into hamsters so 3 was too many.

It depends on how much you like those villagers and their particular species.I have a town with three cats but I love cats and the three I have(Merry,Kiki and Tabby) are some of my favorites.

I have 5 rabbits and 2 deer & they still all feel individually special. 3 mice should be fine since you can still have 7 other different types. Sometimes people just click with a certain species!

same species is fine. i try not to have more than 2 of the same personality. since this game really needs more dialogue options. i got 4 cats in my town :)

Two out of my five starter villagers are dogs -- I love dogs in real life, so I feel lucky to have both of them on my island. Everyone is different and can choose villagers based on appearance, species, personality type, etc. or a combination of various factors. You do what will make you happy, and remember that you can always seek new villagers if you get fatigued of having multiple villagers of the same species. :)

I posted this in another thread about this before, but I like having multiple of the same species because sometimes you see them hanging out together and get moments like this.

I definitely understand the desire to have differing species and personalities because that's how I was approaching it at first, but now I'm more focused on just getting villagers I like. I will probably end up with 3 or 4 normals at some point.

I have 2 bulls and 2 hamsters and it doesn't bother me at all! I really like them and they have different personalities so things don't feel the same

I have 2 dogs because they are my favorite species, but yeah I like having some different species.

I wouldn’t want too many of the same species but some overlap doesn’t worry me. Currently I have 2 squirrels and 2 wolves but all the others are different :)

I tend not to pay attention to the species so much as the colors of the villager, their house, their personality. I like to find the ones that check those boxes for me before I pay attention to species.

My husband has an all-bunny island and he loves it! The game started him off with three bunnies right off the bat so he just kept going with it. He even booted Raymond (which was his first non-bunny island find) to make it happen lol.

It's ultimately all about what you like because you're the one who has to deal with it every day. :D Do what makes YOU happy!

There's so many species that ten villagers feels like way too little. I want to have them all. So I would rather not have two villagers of the same species since space is such a valuable resource.

To be honest I don’t mind at all! That is, unless they’re the same personality type. For example, I have two goats (Pashmina and Sherb) but Pashmina is sisterly and Sherb is lazy. If genderlock wasn’t a thing (lol) and they were both lazies or sisterlies, then I would be a tad bit bothered. Mostly because not only would they look similar, but they would act and talk similarly.
I have two peppies, but since one is a duck and the other is a wolf it doesn’t bother me much. If they were both ducks or both wolves, then it would bother me.
I think it would bother me most if it was any personality other than normal. I could tolerate multiple normals from one species mostly because I can’t really define how normals act. They’re nice overall, but their interests confuse me. Celia and Marina are both normals but they act so different.

it definitely depends on the person so just go for whatever you'd like! i think what really matters the most is whether or not you're happy with the villagers that live on your island. i currently have 4 wolves on my island and it doesn't bother me as much but i still aim to have more variety in the future when it comes to species (3 wolves from the ones i have will stay for sure though, i'm too attached to them). but for now i'm enjoying whoever i invite to my island.

I have three wolves: Kyle, Lobo, and Vivian. When I was first recruiting villagers, I didn't even realizethat I kept inviting wolves until they were all there and their houses were all beside each other and then it hit me. I was really upset for a while, just because I'd rather have it more diverse, but now I enjoy it because I grew to like all three of them and stopped remembering that they were all the same animal

In general I like a diverse town. Right now I have Freya and Dobie and, admittedly, I'd consider keeping Freya as a semi-permanent villager if Dobie wasn't my favorite cranky.

That being said, I'm also a little hesitant to move out Freya now (if she asked, though, I would) because she and Dobie seem to be pretty close 😅

EDIT: Oh, and cats are the exception for me. I'd have to have all cats and no room for anything else for it to bother me 😂

I think it would bother me most if it was any personality other than normal. I could tolerate multiple normals from one species mostly because I can’t really define how normals act. They’re nice overall, but their interests confuse me. Celia and Marina are both normals but they act so different.
Yah, personalities are a different issue entirely- after all, we have more villagers than personalities.

And hobbies and interests can be separate from personality for any personality type. Like I have Plucky and Ursala, but Ursala spends most of her time singing and dancing, while Plucky loves running around the beach pretending to fly (which is probably the cutest thing ever to see a chicken doing). They have the same personality but they still come off as different to me because their hobbies different. But, admittedly it may seem more obvious with normals, just 'cause their personality is so very basic.

FYI, this document here, covers different hobbies for people who don't know about them!

I have a plan for 10 different species of villagers, 1 of each personality, and the 2 last remaining slots are villagers that I just want because they are cute or whatever. I don't know why, and it may seem super silly, but despite really loving both Maple and Judy, I can't seem to accept both as they are the same species, so I guess 2+ is hard for me for some reason. Ironically in NL I had an all bunny town!

Maple will be in my island eventually...
