Animal Crossing New Horizons has been out for approximately two months. And unfortunately some players have had to restart their beloved islands. Whether by choice or force of hand due to unseen events. I'm wondering about people's experiences with restarting. Things like if they regret it, what did you do differently (if anything), do you miss your old island, etc. Please write about your experiences below as I will too.

I recently had to restart this morning due to my game cartridge going MIA. I downloaded the digital version of this amazing game and as I'm writing this, I actually just paid off the initial 5k Nook Miles and put Blathers' Plot down.

I do miss my old town, but most importantly my villager Rosie. She was my BEST FRIEND there! I love her to death and I'm considering getting her amiibo card. Though I think the game compensated me because I started out with MIRA and RUDY. Two awesome villagers that I already like so much on day 1.

Speaking about days, I did decide to start at the ACNH release date. And slowly time travel forward progressing my island. This will continue until I reach the actual date. (No hating on Time traveling please - agree to disagree ^^)

I'm thinking my island could go better off knowing what I know now. I know what I want know and what I should do. So restarting isn't all that bad. There's always a bright side to things, remember that.

Can't wait for what waits AtlasFalls!

I'm confused. You had to restart your save because you lost the cartridge? Are you referring to New Leaf? NH saves are on the console, not the card.

@JKDOS Same, I’m confused as well, unless the data got corrupted...
If you lose the physical copy you can't start the game up without it in the Switch right? I think that's what OP means.

I'm juggling feelings of restarting and potential regret. I'd want a better RS placement but I've put so much work in and I'd miss this island so much. I wish I could have a second island but two Switches is too expensive.

I reset my game because I was time traveling and I didn't like the way that it effected me and my game personally! I've stopped time traveling and I'm doing things day by day and being patient with everything. So far I'm very happy. I don't regret resetting at all. I'm also glad that even though I am not time traveling, others still do because it does benefit me in ways such as adopting my dreamies and getting items from people who can provide them quickly! I hope you have fun on your new island. Regardless of how you play your game, I hope that you enjoy yourself to the fullest and that you develop another beautiful island to be proud of. While your previous island and friends are gone for now, you'll make many new ones and may even reunite with those you've lost! :)

No. OP specifically said they reset. If you bought digital, you should be able to resume your save.

With how saves are handled on Switch, they save to the console (or SD card if it is allowed) and not cartridge, that’s why we’re a bit confused that they had to start all over. Digital versions for switch allow you to start where you left off, not make you start all over...

I reset twice, the first time after 30h because I realised I should have planned my island design in advance, the 2nd time after 70h because I went too heavy on the terraforming without a plan and ended up hating my island. I've been on my 3rd island for about a week? And I'm pretty happy with it, this time I'm keeping most of the island's original layout, and I've started experimenting more with decorating small parts so I don't get too overwhelmed/frustrated. Overall a pretty satisfying experience :)
