In a matter of weeks: DS owners will sample free games simply by visiting their local game retailers; players will enjoy live, real-time Wi-Fi voice interaction with their portable game play; the 1 millionth DS owner will log onto Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming service; and a new lighter, brighter DS will make its debut in Japan.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing, announced the new DS features during his keynote address today at the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences' D.I.C.E. conference in Las Vegas.

"Nintendo DS was the only video game system that exceeded expectations in 2005, simply because it dared to be different," Fils-Aime said. "By further enriching the ways in which players can compete, play and sample new games, that process is accelerating in the opening weeks of 2006."

Here are the details announced at the D.I.C.E. conference:

DS Download Service: Starting next month, Nintendo will offer all DS owners free downloadable game demos and other downloadable content at thousands of participating retail locations around the United States. An in-store kiosk will beam wireless demo versions of games and other downloadable content into a players' Nintendo DS system. Users simply stop by the store with their Nintendo DS, click "DS Download Play" on their system and choose one of a variety of DS games they want to sample. The game will download automatically and users can play all they want (even if they leave the store) until the Nintendo DS is turned off.

Sequentially, players can try out as many games as they want, letting them test drive the wide array of games that can only be played on Nintendo DS. The first DS Download Service stations will include free demos of Tetris DS, Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, Mario Kart DS, Meteos, True Swing Golf and Pok

I'll not only beat you guys, but I can trash talk before and after the match too!

@ Twilight King - Reggie is known to unveil DS news, while Iwata has the good grip on consoles. Expect TP and Rev news at GDC, which is in March, around Metroid's release.

well, at least ill have metroid prime hunters to hold me over... but the bad news is if they release TP info at GDC then we can pretty much rule out an april release for TP. i hope its june now

:P
I was actually thinking that they'll release Twilight Princess near the Revolution launch, since they ARE planning Revolution controller functionality, as the UK Official Magazine of Nintendo said...

But MP:H will DEFINITELY keep me occupied until TP, probably even until the Revolution.

Oh yeah, and I can move this to the Wi-Fi Connection Lobby...

actually nintendo dismissed the idea of TP having rev functions.

yeah, too bad that downloading thing in stores is only in the united states >_>
They never dismissed it. They said, "We do not comment on rumors and/or speculation", the same thing they said toward a Nintendo DS redesign, and look where we are now! The DS Lite. Hmm.

Oh yeah, and Reggie himself said that it would be cool if Twilight Princess had Rev controller functionality... Sounds fishy, don't you think?

very true. i dont know what to think of nintendo at the moment >_>
They're very secretive, that's all. But honestly, if Rev functionality with TP was confirmed by Nintendo's OFFICIAL magazine, then you can expect it to be there. It's just that Nintendo wants to keep us on the edge at all times.

Yes, I do too, but they have their reasons... They also said that everything would be revealed about the Revolution a couple of weeks before launch.:| Yep, we need to wait THAT long. Here's a direct quote -

"Come May, we'll reveal a lot of info", says Reggie Fils-Aime, "We'll reveal even more after that, and even more a couple of weeks before release."

Looks like they want to keep the good stuff until the end. -__-

Oh yeah, we'll see who's going to rub it into who's face.

Last big Rev news was like in October... the TGS.... And, frankly, I don't think they're doing such a good job of spreading out the info in even layers... heh.

:P

It's all for reasons, so I'm good.
