Moving in villagers without ruining your paths?

I really want to get rid of chadder because he is just ugly and annoying and thinks we are friends and we are definitely NOT. But I have a path set up from the gods right now and I would be super upset if it was to be messed up. So what do you do to make villagers move where you want them?

since the update, villagers no longer move on top of patterns, so your path should be safe.

They won't move on top of the paths if you have a proper 3x3 spaces that they can actually place their plot/house in

I'm still not sure I believe this, and I haven't seen any official notes on it. I have HUGE amounts of free space with no patterns available, and Stitches still moved right on top of my paths yesterday. :/
