Exactly what it says, I have mixed feelings about the amiibo cards in general, having collected all 406 (400 in the series, the 2 special Japanese ones, the 3 Amiibo Festival ones, and the non-working promotional one distributed in Europe as an advertisement for the cards).
Don't get me wrong, it was fun collecting them, but they're not giving me the satisfied feeling like I thought they would. Probably because I did this before, back in 2002 and 2003 with the e-reader ones. Speaking of that, e+ actually had the ability to add villagers in with their e-reader cards, and despite rumors going around online the original NA Animal Crossing game did NOT have that feature.
Which leads me to the topic of that same ability being added back in the series with HHD and New Leaf's update. While it's super cool, I don't know if I like it or not. I finally got my favorite through the campsite just 3 months after I started, and that excitement that I felt when she was there, and I invited her in, just made my day. To now be able to get whoever you want is kind of a letdown of the excitement. All this to me kind of points to Nintendo connecting all these Animal Crossing games, into a "World of Animal Crossing" like the phone app is supposed to also connect to.
These amiibo cards sure are clever, but man alive were they had to collect! Especially series 4 when GameStop as a corporation made the decision not to carry them anymore- sure, decide that on the very last series! Oh well, I have them all thanks to trades, but while it seems cool to use them in New Leaf, I honestly don't want to use them in New Leaf, I'd rather they be used for future games! I've been playing New Leaf daily over 3 years straight, it definitely feels its age at times- really during the camera rotation compared to HHD's, but whatever, they want to connect them all together to the phone app later this year.
It kind of feels like the fanbase isn't being listened to, and when they are, Nintendo's delivering it on past stuff, it's like come on Nintendo, you know fans wanted an actual Wii U version instead of a spinoff, the Smash amiibo sold because Smash implemented them well on top of being an actual Smash game, you didn't need to spin off Animal Crossing to implement them, you could have put them in an actual game in the series...
