Has anyone ever mispronounced a Pokemon's name, only to find later that the official pronunciation is something completely different?

For me, it was Suicune (I called it SOO-ih-soon, as in "suicide"), and Illumise (ILL-loom-eyes).

I haven't done it with Pokemon, but with the Dream Suite

Suite = Soot
Then people pronounced it as Sweet.

WHAAAAT?

I have with some Pokemon like Groudon and Rayquaza. Whereas the official pronunciations are Grow(as in growl)-don and Ray-kway-zah, I called them- and still adamantly do so because I think they sound better- Groo-don and Ray-kwah-za.

I made the same Illumise mistake- but mostly because I didn't know that 'illuminate' was a word.

I've miss-pronounced Pokemon's names before. Especially when I listen to the characters pronounce them in the Pokemon anime and I'm like WHAT

XD

yeah i agree with the list above... especially Suicune. i am also confused with the following:

1. Flabebe - is it "fla-baby" "fla-beh-beh" "fla-beb" ? i really dont know
2. Gardevoir - 'gar-de-vwah" "gar-de-voire"

For the past five years of my life I have thought phanpy was called phanphy and I only realised its not yesterday... Idk how I feel about it.

I also call Ray-qway-zah, ray-qwah-zah

Back when I first got into Pokemon, I pronounced so many of their names wrong. I still do so sometimes I just won't even say their names out loud, I'll just describe their appearance because I'm afraid I'll say it wrong and get made fun of.

I goofed so many names until I heard them either on the anime or on Battle Revolution for the Wii... I thought Milotic was mil-ot-tic (like melody), only to find out it's mi-lo-tech. There' still a few names I'm waiting to hear on the anime so I can be sure how to say them...

Omigosh! I stil call Milotic as Mil-o-teek. My childhood is ruined! nooooo...

There are probably more which I'll prob come back later to post but the one off the top of my head is makuhita. I used to say "mah-ku-ta" but that was because it's name was too long so I just made it up

Ferglatar and Snivvy.

Ferglatar due to my minor dyslexia when I was a youngun, and Snivvy due to not realizing the portmanteau until several seconds later.

Arceus.

Also feraligatr, I used to say it as FER-LA-GAR.
My brother still makes fun of me for it, its become one of my least favorites because of that.

I believe I've found the biggest butchering yet: I talked to a coworker at my new job who said she used to call Gyarados "Jep-PYRE-a-dose". xD
