"Documentaries usually only focus on weighty subjects like history-altering politicians or terrible hip-hop singing Joaquin Phoenixes. You know, the really important stuff.

And now, with your help, the game Minecraft can join those hallowed ranks. The documentary company 2 Player Productions is financing an in-depth look at the phenomenally popular construction game - and they want your help via Kickstarter. For anyone unfamiliar with the Minecraft creation myth, here are its basics: Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson developed the title on his own in his spare time and released it in 2009. The concept is simple, but hypnotic. Using digital blocks, create anything you can dream up: buildings, fantasy landscapes, etc. Overnight, Persson's game sold a million downloads and was every nerd’s new obsession.

The documentary’s initial funding goal has already been reached - and surpassed. But there are still a few days left for you to get your mitts on some of the pledge rewards. Depending on how much you donate, you will get toys inspired by the game, a poster signed by Persson and/or the chance to be in the film’s credits. Sadly, none of the funding options give you a share of the Oscar the movie will inevitably win next year for Best Documentary."

This could be VERY interesting...

Or terrible.

Counts who plays your character. Should be Tom Cruise, we'd all LOVE to see him blown up by a creeper!

You're thinking of it as an actual movie. It's a documentary on Minecraft, Notch and Mojang.
You'd of known this if you actually read BB's post.

However, "Minecraft: the Movie" as the thread title would get that response.
The doc is actually entitled "Minecraft: The Story of Mojang"

This was the topic of the article on the website. I literally copied and pasted it word for word (removing an ad at the bottom that addressed something completely different). I did link the source, though.

It would make an epic movie, though. Like this:

WHat.

Anyway I pledged some :-p I wouldn't mind getting a look at it for inspiration really.

They did have this up for a long time now actually, there was a 20 minute preview of it. Not sure if that's still about.

I saw a doc on Mojang. Was it this one? Anyways, I saw it on youtube and it was very itneresting to hear about what they went through to make Minecraft what it is today.

If it was 20 minutes long, it was this one.
