Personally, I wish people Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. While I understand people celebrate different things at this time of year I don't agree that wishing somebody that doesn't celebrate Christmas a merry one is a bad thing, it's just spreading some of the cheer from your celebrations into their life. I think there's some gratitude that can be taken from that, more so than just wishing them a Happy Holiday.

So what are your thoughts? Do you wish people a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? Or maybe you say something else?

I use Happy Holidays when talking about Thanksgiving - New Years. It doesn't bug me when people use that phrase.

i usually say happy holidays, to avoid people *censored.4.1*.

not that anyone will, or that i have anyone aside from cashiers to say it to, but oh well.

People get mad if you say that too.

Maybe mix it up and say "seasons greetings."

They will be like "woah... brah... thats classic man... yea man..."

yeah, but i'd be fully prepared to defend happy holidays, while merry christmas leaves me open to the whole "why not encompass all the holidays?" or something.

lol class

I say Happy Holidays, not because I'm an atheist, but because Happy Holidays includes all holidays around this time of year...Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and New Years. It's easier just to say one thing than say 5 different things, because you never know what holiday a person does or doesn't celebrate.

Merry cause thats my holiday ;) but if I know for a fact someone doesn't celebrate Christmas then its Happy Holidays

At the end of the day no body is really going to flip if you say "Merry Christmas", unless they're extremists, but they don't live anywhere near me. The nearest I get are pikies, so what I say is "Oi ye' 'happy 'holidays init bruv!"

Weird enough, a couple mins ago, I was flipping through channels and I watched 2 mins. of American Dad! and he was flipping *censored.2.0* since people were saying Happy Holidays.

Anyways though, I say both.

I used to say Happy Christmas, but then I 'learnt' that Merry Christmas is more appropriate. (In one Classic era Doctor Who episode (Can't remember which) the Master had a go at someone and he was all like "It's not Happy Christmas, you don't go round saying Merry New Year!")
