As this is another nostalgia thread, this is dedicated to discussing your childhood years (or your early adulthood years if you are even older). Pretty much most of us TBTers have lived through the 2000’s or the 1990’s. So if you have any positive memories from 2000 to 2009, feel free to share them here.

This is definitely not a positive memory nor will it ever be but I remember 9/11. I was a sophomore in high school when it happened and somehow I went almost the entire day without knowing anything had happened. I found out during my next to last class of the day which was English and it was about 1:30. This was also the year that they gave all the students laptops for school work and somehow I didn’t see any news of the attacks. Other kids apparently knew before I did because I remember in study hall, someone saying that there’d be a payer circle but no reason why which did seem odd to me as that never happened before or after that day.

I have fond memories of going to the Home Video Store and finding movies and Wii games to rent with my sister.

I lost my hearing some time around '95. The older I got the downhill my hearing went.

My favorite memories of 2000s would be the day I heard my parents again for the first time in a long time. I had got the surgery for cochlear implant in 03 (I think)

Mom sound like Minnie Mouse and my dad sound like Mickey mouse. We had to stop by the gas station before heading home. I heard the motorcycle for the first time ever. Literally jumped in my seat then asked my mom what that sounds was.

I moved country (twice!) in the 2000s so it was an interesting time. A lot of firsts. Three schools, graduation, starting college. Being the one with an odd accent people couldn't understand (and mocked) was... an experience. I feel I've developed a good ear for understanding accents because of it.

Although I have one specific good memory from 2003 that will always stick with me. My childhood best friend (born the same day as me) and I went to a local funfair with her mum. We were on a ride called The Twist. Gareth Gate's cover of Spirit in the Sky started playing and we added to the lyrics:

Going up to the spirit in the sky (in the Twist!)
That's where I'm gonna go when I die (in the Twist!)
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best (that's The Twist!)

We also had a joint birthday party in 2001 at a swimming pool. It was the only birthday party I had as a kid that wasn't hosted at home.

-my birth (2005)
-the goat, the nintendo wii released (2006)
-playing the wii demo at sears when sears was still a thing.

Seeing the nostalgia cycle reach the decade I spent the majority of my childhood in has been interesting. In my mind it doesn't seem that long ago, but then whenever I reflect I realize a lot has changed.

Smartphones were new in that decade and not nearly as widespread. A lot of tasks were still done on paper and beyond going to the computer lab occasionally to do standardized tests my schooling in the 2000s was quite old fashioned.

Cable TV was still popular and if you didn't remember when a specific episode of a show was playing you couldn't watch it unless you recorded it.

Video games were largely finished once you bought them. You inserted the discs or the cartridges and they just worked. If there were any glitches you just lived with them. DLC wasn't common in single player games, so it felt like more game developers put effort in including a good amount of content in every major video game.

YouTube wasn't something you earned money on. Everything was a passion project. The quality of the videos was lower, but there weren't ad sponsorships or nearly as much contresory from the larger channels.

Mail was faster, politics felt more civil, and everything was cheaper (other than things like TVs).

I won't let rose tinted glasses prevent me from admitting the flaws of that decade. The internet was very slow. Trying to watch videos or download anything took way too long.

Homophobia was more normalized. I got questionable treatment from other children because my parents were a lesbian couple. Autism was barely discussed and I was lucky to get diagnosed in 2006. I know many kids at the time, especially girls, were not diagnosed until long after the decade was over and didn't get the support they needed at the time.

It was harder to stay in touch with people. The internet existed, but it wasn't as widespread as it is now. You really had to put a lot more effort to keep friendships going.

The 2000s were the final years I had before becoming an adult. It’s sort of weird that I technically grew up in three different decades. I also remember Blockbuster and getting my first DS Lite and game from the store.

Although I began the decade in a cruddy apartment and ended it in a nice house, I lived in two different townhouses for most of the decade. The first one was really nice. The second one, despite having its issues, it at least had three stories.

Some of my top interests back in the decade are:
  • The Powerpuff Girls
  • The Nintendo 64
  • Bionicle
  • Tycoon games
  • The Fairly Oddparents
And in 2003, it was the year I first got into SpongeBob (which is my favorite show today) and Animal Crossing (which is why I’m here).

And one more thing. I’ve been to Disneyland three times within the decade. Two days in 2001, four days in 2003, and two days in 2006.

My core memory doesn't begin until the later 2000's. (around 06 with a bit of earlier foggy recollection)

I had a decent home life with a very negative early school experience.

I'm nostalgic for some late 2000's shows but I have no nostalgia for grade school and hold very few positive memories of it. I expirenced a prolific amount of bullying and harassment until around 3rd grade.
