No sweat, some people might be riled up a bit since they've seen similar threads like this "why is ___ so popular?" time after time but a question is a question. :]
My answer: Marshal has many different reasons why he's popular. Either it be because of personal reasons like "he reminds me of my dog" or simply because people like his cute and simple design. People like his appearance. People like his size. People like his personality. Some people just like him because he's popular, and get him to show-off. He can also be considered a symbolism as wealth in a way. Some people just want him for his rare sloppy furniture. Some people just want him because he fits their town theme. Everyone has different reasons why they like him. It's all a matter of fact of opinion and personal reasons! It's like asking yourself why you like your dream villager? Same as that.

I'll avoid posting a long list as to why I hate him, so I'll just say, that I am not a fan of him. I prefer underrated villagers. I may have some popular ones in my town, but to be honest, my favorite members of my town are the less popular ones.

To OP, he's a little cute marshmallow squirrel. I don't particularly like him that much, but he's popular because he's easy on the eyes, he's got a really rare set of furniture, etc.

I don't know that everybody gets mad; some may but I think most of us here don't. It's just that these threads happen all the time and get tiring. That said, I don't mind them because the pages move quickly and users who are not on here frequently or are new don't see them. We are all new at some time.
I haven't had Marshall so I can't speak from experience. He looks cute tho and may fit in well with many town themes. I personally don't have him as a villager or a dreamie, but from the pics I see of him he seems just fine.

I met him at a friends town and he was p cute. I used to have him as my smug dreamie bc I thought he was the best smug (I hate the smugs usually) but then I realized I liked lopez and kyle a lot.
