Topic title is my question. I'm buying a Wii U very soon and I'll be getting those 2 games (among others). Should I buy the Mario Kart 8 or Hyrule Warriors DLC?

Right now, I'm leaning towards YES for Mario Kart 8 and NO for Hyrule Warriors.

I don't have Hyrule Warriors, but the mario kart 8 DLC is definitely worth it imo

But you should just play both games first just in case you end up not liking one or the other very much

Tbh Hyrule Warriors DLC >>>> Mario Kart DLC.

I've never really liked Mario Kart anyway. I'm not a competitive video game player, so online doesn't appeal to me that much. One I unlocked everything in MK8 I basically just stopped playing. It lost it's replay value for me. In fact, I don't even see Mario Kart to have any replay value (I know it does, but it just doesn't appeal to me).

Hyrule Warriors does though. I was hesitant to buying the DLC at first, but once I bought it I was glad I bought it, and don't regret it one bit. Just the first DLC pack alone was worth the $20AUD price tag for all four DLC packs LOL

I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but given then MK and HW DLC are the same price, I think the HW DLC has a lot more value for money. I really don't see the appeal of paying $20 for like three or four new characters, two new cups, and some alternate skins for yoshi/shy guy (possibly more, but I'm forgetting it). Not to mention the next DLC isn't coming until... May I think? That's way too far away, and like I said, I see MK as a game with little to no replay value, I don't know why they're waiting out so long to publish it. I get it's to stretch the games lifespan, but I really see no point. No matter how great the DLC is, I'm not going to go back and play the game almost a year after it's release just to compete in a cup a couple of times, before never playing the game again.

Hyrule Warriors at least releases the DLC monthly since release (skipping December), with the last pack on February. This is perfect for me, because I've found myself almost completing the last DLC pack before the next ones release - it's a perfect gap between DLC releases and I'm happy with it. And as for what you get, you get new adventure maps for 3/4 packs, new characters + weapons (changing up gameplay), and new modes I think. I really don't know what's in the DLC by heart, but I do know I'd much rather spend $20 on DLC for a game that I'm going to get a lot more features/gameplay out of, than spend it on something I'll get bored of after a week.

But basically what Murray said. You should try both games first before deciding what DLC you want to get.

its $16 AUD for 6 new characters, 4 cups and yoshi/shyguy colours!!! get it right!!

But yea if you don't like mario kart I can see why you wouldn't bother, but if you like mario kart 8 it's a necessity!

Awks. Thought they were the same price for some reason. I still think they're expensive for what they give though. Id probably value both packs for the price of one. Maybe I'm just being cheap but I really don't see the value at all in the mk8 dlc, even though I've headed ample times that it's good value lol

The Mario Kart 8 DLC was 300% worth it, in my opinion. The new cups are amazing and bring back some old retros and brand new courses like EXCITE BIKE (which changes bits of the course every time you play it), Mute City, and Hyrule Circuit.

You also get some new vehicles/tires along with the new characters, too. : )

And it's $11.99 for BOTH DLCs, which is where the real value comes in. This was just wave one. If you pay the twelve for both (which is a fantastic deal), you're also all set for the ones coming in May, which include Isabelle and Villager as playable characters and two MORE brand new cups, more vehicles, etc. Buying separately is $7.99 each, but it's a really great deal for both. And you get the colors for Yoshi and Shy Guy, for the package deal, which is a nice free little bonus.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Yeah, I definitely gotta play Hyrule Warriors first before deciding. I've never played any Dynasty Warriors games, but I know hack-n-slash games can be fun for a while but sometimes I get bored. That's why I'm unsure about the DLC.

I'm not a competitive player, but I've always loved Mario Kart. It's just been a long time since I've played one - I've only played the SNES and N64 ones. Mario Kart is one of those games that has tons of replay value for me. I don't know if I care about the characters or kart pieces, but I'm really interested in the new tracks. Tracks based off of other video games? The SNES version of Rainbow Road? Awesome. Pack 2 not coming out all the way until May is kinda weird though. That's a long wait. :/

It's probably something to do with either mk8 1 year anniversary, or for animal crossing wii u promotion (or both I guess?). But at least we'll know it'll be quality and that their not just pumping out cheap tracks for profit.

If you end up enjoying Hyrule Warriors, definitely buy the DLC. There's so much content packed in there that it'll keep you busy for hours... and they're still not done releasing content packs. The new Adventure Maps by themselves would be worth the price, but they throw in costumes, new characters, new weapons, and even new story in this DLC.

Mario Kart 8 is fun and all, but unless you're planning on playing it a lot (maybe with friends, maybe online), the DLC is not gonna be worth it. I bought it, and while it has some nice content, I'm like Jake. in that I don't feel MK8 has a lot of replay value. I'll sometimes play online, but I literally just checked out the new tracks, playing with Link once and I haven't touched MK8 ever since. I assume it'll be the same with the second pack, sadly.

Another board where nobody likes anything.
But both DLCs are super worth it. MK8 adds enough and people vote for the tracks online often enough too, plenty of replay in that. No idea how people are saying it has no replay value at all *facepalm* That's like the one thing people say about Mario Kart in general especially thanks to the online mode.
Hyrule Warriors = most of it really worth it just for that 2nd map, it'll add a lot of gametime, but of course all the other goodies that come along with. If there are any plain costume packs I personally feel like I'd steer away from it just because I don't care for more costumes, like I don't want to just buy OoT clothes that do me no good but lookin pretty.

I've had this feeling, too. It seems like the perfect time (just about two years after ACNL was released). And I feel we're going to get a new AC game around that time and both are going to work to promote each other. That and I think they want to extend the replay value of Mario Kart 8 further down the road. Although, to be perfectly honest, I play and stream the game every week and I look forward to it every time. Mario Kart is just one of those games I can't really get tired of, since it's a new experience every time you play and a blast to play with friends.

I'd say they're both worth it, but make sure you buy the packs and not just individual parts of the DLC available.

I cannot speak for the Hyrule Warriors, but I think that the MK8 is well worth it. Given I play it almost everyday, once a week at the bare minimum, and I still enjoy it.

I doubt we would be getting a new AC game then, but rather an announcement around that time would make sense, or even to just build up awareness of the series for an announcement at e3 or somethin

That's more than likely, yeah. But was there hype for ACNL long before it came out? I can't remember any. That's why I was wondering if it'll be a kind of surprise release or something. Who knows, though!

Also, I can't fathom why some people are commenting about how a DLC isn't worth it for a game they don't like/aren't interested in/don't have.

I think the best thing would be to wait until you've gotten your Wii U and played both games for a while. You'll likely have an idea of the DLC's value, as well as what the DLC is going to actually give you (since for example, HW's 'Adventure Maps' might not mean much to you right now)

The Mario Kart 8 DLC might depend a lot on whether you play multiplayer much (either online or with friends).

I personally don't play online much at all (I think I've spent 2 hours online since I bought it), but I still think it was worth the price they're charging for what they give you since they're really fun tracks. The Hyrule Circuit was especially a great track with a lot of really nice little details.

The characters may or may not interest you, that's a matter of preference though.
I have always used Yoshi since the SNES Mario Kart, so the extra characters were irrelevant to me since I was always unlikely to use them (though I do look forward to Isabelle)

Basically, if you're fine paying for Mario Kart 8 in the first place, you'll be happy enough to spend ?13 for another 4 cups. They could have easily charged more for what they're giving us here, especially since they're almost giving us half as much content than was in the main game itself! It's definitely a bargain.

Hyrule Warriors give you a lot of content, but it's largely stuff for 'Adventure Mode'. You're better off trying Adventure Mode for yourself first and seeing what you think of it. If you like Adventure Mode, then it will definitely be worth the price since there's a lot of content for ?14 (with more still coming).
I didn't really like Adventure Mode all that much (I must be one of few that doesn't) and as a result, I've not even touched 95% of the current DLC despite owning it.

It also gives you some characters, costumes and a few weapons but again, you're probably better looking at what they are for yourself to see if they even interest you. The costumes are largely 'palette swaps' and just a few skins at this point. The only character so far is 'Twilight Midna' (correct me if I'm wrong) and I think the only 'weapon' is Epona (who I personally found clunky and awkward to use)

You're really going to have to look at what each DLC gives you since it's a mixed bag and decide whether or not you think you'll even use the stuff you get or how much YOU think it's worth.
It is really worth the price for how much you're getting, but that doesn't mean much if you don't happen to like any of the content it gives you.

But...There's like...Nobody hating on anything at all. Just 2 people that don't play online with Mario Kart o.O

It's kinda odd that I use Mario Kart 8 more for online play than local play.

My brothers absolutely suck at racing games, and my game club played it like twice, though it was still a hit.
