So I've been resetting for the past day and nothing good. One thing I've noticed is that I keep getting maps with way to many ponds. Trying to stay positive that I'll find a map soon.
Keep trying! It took me several tries to get mine. Got a good fruit, good grass, good amount of rocks and ponds, but the river is weirdly positioned. I'm trying to make me way through it.
I've started a new town twice on NL and both times I just kinda picked out of the first set of maps given to me, and dealt with it. I don't like going through the hassle of finding a good map. Both times, I have found the maps to be very accommodating, and if they didn't make something work I just kinda went a different route and eventually made it work.
I mean unless you just absolutely want that perfect map, I would suggest just finding one in a bunch that looks decent and working with it.
I totally know what you mean! I created my first town before I had any idea about landscaping or town layout, and it doesn't look too bad, all things considered! I just started my third town, Kyes, a few days ago, and it took me forever to find a town that didn't have a weird shaped river, with less than three ponds! Most towns I found that had a good river layout had four or five ponds! Absolutely madness. Just be patient, you'll eventually find something that you like. You may have to sacrifice some of your wishlist, though.
if i reset my town which would probably never happen for a while, my requirements for a map would be lots of ponds (or at least more than two) and a south facing waterfall or one of those pretty diagonal waterfalls that i see on the internet. I would prefer 5 rocks (including fake rock), square grass, and cherries (never had them before) but the first two requirements above are priorities. I don't care if the river is long and winding, what color town hall or the train station is (i can always change it later), or what villagers i get (i can choose and move out any villagers i want) I'm not that picky. So kudos to all of you who reset for 4 hours or more just to get a map that satisfies most of your needs.
I just went through this as well! I kept getting perfect maps with a ridiculous number of ponds... and you know what that means.. more rocks as well! Might as well not even landscape haha. It took me three days (with lots of break time in between) to find a map I was ok with but had to savrafise a couple things. Good luck I really hope you find a map you love!
I reset for mine for like 3 days and still isn't perfect, the only pond I have is the retail one and is too big and in the way, and there are 3 rocks that ruined the opportunity of placing PWPs. I feel your pain.
