Making In-game Gifs?

i apologize if this isn't the right forum for this...

i was just wondering how people make in-game gifs of their screenshots? i have a hard enough time as it is making my regular screenshots look nice, and it is beyond me how you would go about doing that??

edit: this is mostly a thing i come across on tumblr, but i've never seen any guides floating around!

More than likely, they have a 3DS capture board that allows them to record footage onto their computer. Then they just edit/export from there. Alternately, an emulator (I'm sure there's a 3DS one by now) and a screen recorder.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't take in-game footage with the 3DS itself.
