Japanese broadcaster NHK says a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck the east coast of Japan Sunday afternoon but fortunately there were no casualties.
The quake with a depth of about 40 kilometers was felt the strongest in central Fukushima prefecture some 210 kilometers northeast of Tokyo but it also swayed buildings in the capital.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says the earthquake hit the country at around 5 PM local time.
NHK also reported that slight changes to ocean levels were a possibility in some areas adding that no further damages are expected
