OK, so, I want a laptop... and I'm honestly looking at a Macbook. I know, I know, these fellas are expensive, but all the positive opinions are making me very curious. But I have a few questions.

a) What is the difference between the regular and "Pro"? I understand that the latter is better, has more space, RAM, etc... but anything else?

b) I've never used a Mac before. Is it difficult to adjust from PC --> Mac?

c) Which model in particular would you guys recommend?

d) Anything else I should know?

I also have a student discount since I'm at the U of M... and if I buy a Mac before September, I get a free 8 gig iPod Touch and printer courtesy of the U.

So yeah. Thanks in advance guys. :P

My mom just bought a accer and its really good has like 3 gigs of ram and carma/video recorder with windows vista and much more.

Learning curve is practically nil. I've never used a Mac until a week ago, and now it's natural.
Well, that's good, then. Because the learning curve is the main thing I'm worried about.

...Oh yeah, and then there's the issue of raising enough money for one of these things... gah... why must Macs be so expensive? : (

I honestly don't know. The only major difference I've noticed is that fact that everything has more of a polish to it.

I think it's because of the "Apple" name... I mean, iPods are more expensive than other music players, too...

But then again, they tend to be better. So I dunno... I've just heard so many people saying that Macs are x1000 better than PCs.

I had a Mac, then used a PC for 3 years. But since then I've used a Mac for much longer. It's SOOO much better. I'd recommend you get the pro because it will last you a lot longer. Yeah it's faster, has more memory, more hard drive space, bigger screen, backlit keyboard, faster DVD burning and such. So, it all depends on what you want. Smaller mac, or Bigger mac. As long as it's a Mac xD. Can't wait to hear your choice. The platform is totally universal. Plus you can put windows on your mac. Win win. ;)

Wouldn't putting Windows on a Mac kind of eliminate the purpose of getting one? :P

But yeah, it looks like I'm gonna go with the higher-end Pro. It's $2,499.00 at the Apple Store, but with student discounts I can get it for $2,000.

Now, how do I raise this much money by September... haha.

Well, you can run it fully like a PC then switch back and forth. OR you can use this: Parallels. You can run both simultaneously.

Hmm. Running two OSes would be kinda cool... but I think I'd rather stick with one to maximize the hardware resources.

Very cool. Yeah, I wish they weren't as costly. But you are getting what you pay for.

Oh, on the topic of dual booting. I do it on my computer. Works flawlessly. But I have just about the best PC you can get.

Great... That is not a macbook.

As far as macbooks go, I'd get one... They're basically amazing. Not cheap, but if you're getting a student discount, free iPod, and Printer that'll well make up for it.

Honestly, I don't see the wonderfullyness of a Mac.
And I'm really the sort of person that should.

For me, it just seems different. Not better, just different.
I'm a fan, but I'm not a fanboy. I still like my PC.

I dunno.

See, when I dual booted with Mac, I figured I'd never use it. Turns out, it was the other way around, I can't think of the last time I used my PC partition.

Meh.
It's good, but I think it's WAAAY overrated.

One of my friends managed to get a Mac for $500.00.
She never mentioned any details but from what I've seen, it looks great.
I wish I knew what type of Mac she bought. :-/

I sort of regret buying the laptop I have now. Macs look at least 100% better. ^_^
