Looks like there's a new duplication glitch...

It's still cheating, like it or not. It's an artificial way to manipulate events inside the game. It's similar to using action replay/gameshark. The fact that the majority of the community doesn't see it as cheating doesn't change the fact that it is, by definition, a way to cheat the game.

hahaha the game shark and action replay, you must be old school! I totally had those for the GameCube, I was like 8 and the novelty of it was so fun to me. The idea of wanting to earn what I have and be proud of my work didn’t settle in until I got older.

this doesn’t need to turn into a debate about TT, heaven knows we have enough of those over here, but the comparison to those older products is an interesting one. Those only existed before online play with strangers was widespread. Can you imagine if these days for 20 bucks any idiot (such as 8 year old me) could buy a game card that made infinite bells spawn on your island? These dupe glitches would be child’s play in comparison.

After seeing another duplication for the first time, I don't think i’ll do this glitch, I saw someone on reddit that said their data got corrupted and deleted upon doing the glitch.

I will never be against TTing, as I don't think it breaks the game in any way, and I can see myself doing it in the future to speed up the process of moving buildings or something. If someone wants to get their favorite villagers, find high selling turnip prices or it to snow in the island right away, I don't really see the issue. What I won't ever condone is the use of exploits such as this, because they're doing it specifically to have more bells, and thus, making them more "powerful", as they can manipulate the economy. If people keep paying upwards of 10 to 20 million bells that they obtained via duping exploits for certain villagers or items, the economy will never stabilize and the people who don't have that many bells won't ever stand a chance. People love to "win" over others, and this is no competitive game, it's quite the opposite. End of this mini rant.

Yeah, I'm not trying to start another war on time travelers; I don't have a problem with them the same way I don't have a problem with people duping items, at least until any of them decide to use these methods to screw people over.

Hahaha and yeah, I can be considered old school :)

The comparison is interesting because it kinda happens to this day. Instead of people buying gameshark, they now buy achievements and trophies on Xbox live and PSN, they buy unlocks for FPSs, bells, NMTs and villagers on eBay... There's even people who pay others to play for them and climb the ranks on Street Fighter, Tekken and other games like this.

The idea is still the same, even if the methods are different.

I just think that it a case of calling a spade a spade. MGS3 is a perfect example and a analogy for TTing because in that game you can change one event if you go outside the game and change the internal clock of the PS2, advancing a few years in the future. It's a cheat, it's there, and poeple don't have a problem with, not even the guy who design the game.

ah.. I made a post about this but it got taken down. I linked it since it was new so now I know why haha. Anyway, it makes me wonder how many other glitches are out there that people havent found.. do you think someone(s) sit all day testing everything until they find something? what a fun life!

I do wonder about that! Some of these glitches are so complicated. Press a, then ZR, then have a friend rotate the table, then go outside during a full moon and sacrifice a small mammal.

like, there is no way someone figured out that worked by accident.

Speedrunners kinda do that all the time hahaha. I think it's crazy that people waste a lot of time trying to break the game instead of, you know... playing it?

(I get the point when it comes to speedruns, I'm talking about people who really sit all day trying to find glitches and stuff like that)

I love watching speedrunners find stuff but I feel like for this game it would get so boring! Like I get bored playing the game regularly lol!

How to craft pier extensions until you get a pier big enough to act as a bridge to get to New Leaf's town

How to move Resident Services without resetting (I bet a lot of people would try this hahaha)

I definitely would love if they added the option to move RS in the next patch. I could move it like 5 or 6 tiles northwards and a few to the right so I would have it on the perfect spot.

Oh you have it pre-planned? I love it! Idk where I would move mine tbh

Even with how quickly they patched the first glitch, the ANCH economy got pretty screwed over by it. There are too many players who don't realize the potential consequences and see it as a way to make a quick buck and because of that, this glitch will screw things up even more. I'm grateful to this community and others for generally being good about this kind of stuff, but a lot of places right now are posting it and bragging about how much they're making from it. I have to say it's tempting because even with TTing I don't make that many bells, but I could never risk corrupting my save file and I'd feel too guilty about messing with the game like that and potentially negatively impacting other players of the game.

can someone clarify why they perceive duping items as a bad thing? is it because the people who duplicate items usually attempt to sell them and this unbalances the economy? i remember there being an easy way to duplicate items in NL but it didn't seem like too many people had a problem with it.

Nah, it's just that if I moved it that way, it would be centered and aligned with the airport. It's not in a bad position right now, it's just me being picky haha. I saw some islands where their Resident Services is located in awkward positions, and when I look at mine, I don't think it's that bad haha

Personally, that's a big reason why it angers me. I got the game a bit late and by that time the first duplication glitch was patched, but since everyone had duplicated items and made tons of money, I couldn't trade with anyone. These glitches unbalance the economy and disadvantage those of us that don't abuse glitches. On Twitter I saw someone saying exactly what I am, and someone responded with "lol no one cares". I'm disappointed in what a large portion of the AC community has become Maybe I'm looking back with rose-tinted glasses, but I don't remember people being this greedy before NH. A large portion of ANCH players are new to AC and don't care about the general community as a whole. What I don't understand is why Nintendo doesn't just ban everyone online if they abuse the glitch, but well, I guess they'd lose a significant bunch of their NH players.

partially yes, because it unbalances the economy. But more so than that because they are deceiving the people they trade with. I am a huge stickler for my own set of rules, I never do anything I consider to be cheating or manipulating the game to my advantage, and I don't like to receive indirect benefits from people who do. Someone goes around offering a rare item for sale without telling people it was hacked or glitched is dishonest and that’s what grinds my gears.

and in the case of this glitch, it sounds like it’s massively unstable. Accepting one of these duplicated items could be a ticking time bomb in your save file.

Maybe I'm looking back with rose-colored glasses as well, but I remember back in NL people would abuse duplication... to do giveaways. Lots of bells to newbies, sharing region-locked items, etc. People were also upfront about the fact the items were glitched so you could choose to if you wanted to buy/receive them or not. This time it seems to be to solely to make money, and people are lying by omission -- selling duplicate items without specificying they're duped, which rubs me the wrong way. At least they make it really obvious, selling every single Gulliver item in one post like no one will figure it out?

Yes I completely agree - I just checked a few discord server and it's insane. All these people care about is profiting and they don't care if they corrupt someone's save file or otherwise mess with their game as long as they get their stupid bells/NMTs/star fragments/etc. If someone is crazy enough to want to buy a duped item with full knowledge of its origin, I still don't like it but at least it's not as screwed up.
