Looking for some advice about online play.

Hi~ I've been playing AC:NH since release and have gotten rather far(almost to 5 star) but I have been struggling with getting new fruit and flowers within my own game for my island.

So, I'm completely new to doing anything online in the game and don't really know how to go about it and I also feel nervous about doing online stuff...
I haven't gotten a lot of information on how online interactions work in the game and that's kinda what I'm hoping to get clarification on, because I would love to start doing online trading so I can make my island perfect~

I think I really would like to know what kind of risks there are and what I should do to protect my island from any possible griefing. I would hate to have that kind of heartbreak.

If you want to get into trading fruit and items is very simple, don't worry! First step is to go to appropriate forums for trading. For fruits you can try Airport too, and for items Nook Cranny. If you make a post about looking to trade your current fruit, people will approach you to trade with them.

Most online play nowadays happens with dodo codes. Those codes let people you don't have in friend list visit your island. It is great for 1 time trades.

You will settle with the trader who visits the island and the host will send a dodo code!

Almost all trades happen at the airport entrance. If you want to protect you town 100%, just fence a square with an opening to the airport. So the visiting person is stuck inside with you. But in my experience most people don't linger anyway. Those who trade, usually have other trades lined up too so they are eager to leave.

Most people that want to linger in your island ask for permission to visit shops. You can grant or deny that. If the person makes you uncomfortable, end the session!

In this game, visitors can no longer destroy flower or chop trees, so you don't have to worry about your town!
