Hello, looking for a town where i can fill my catalog (pick up items and put them back down) & a weeding town where i can pull all the weeds to earn a badge.

I know this is not related to what you are looking for, but I have a question you probably know the answer to.
Does just having the item in your inventory put it in the catalog? So if I picked up something off the ground, got it in the mail from a villager, etc. do all those items go to my catalog?
