Log stakes

Have any of you gotten around the gaining the DIY log stakes recipe. I have unlocked it but my husband doesn't have it. I looked at how you unlock it and it said you have to give Tom Nook 2 creatures. But as the second character on the island, he wasn't able to do that. So is there another way to get the DIY recipe?

You can get recipes from villagers, in message in a bottles, and from letters.

The second player does not get the beginning DIY recipes the same; he will have to purchase the diy pack from timmy/Tommy I believe c:
