If you think I'm going to just randomly pick things when working at The Roost Caf? and not look up exactly how the villagers prefer their coffee, you're crazy. I've also looked up what items villagers like for their birthdays, what the authentic artwork looks like at Redd's tent, the list of K.K. Slider's songs, which personalities suggest which Public Works Projects, and when, where, and how to find specific bugs and fish. Oh, and since April Fool's Day is tomorrow, the answers for that too. There's probably more that I'm not thinking of at the moment. I don't see it as being "guilty" of anything, I'm just playing the game in the most convenient and efficient manner, which gives me the most enjoyment.
I didn't use any guides or even google anything for my first few years playing. After the update I sold my old town and started anew using guides and googling whatever I wanted. It's been interesting to see all the features I was missing out on. I didn't even know patterns could be put on the ground to create paths etc. Hahah my town was very boring before ;'p
I haven't used a guide, but I happily would have if I needed one. I love guides and have many from other rpg games that had a bunch of stuff I never would have known about or found otherwise.

Oh wait, that's a total lie, I HAVE used online guides for birthday gifts, coffee shop and Blanca!! How weird that I didn't even think of those.
I bought the ACNL Guide in 2013 because I wanted to collect all ACNL items. I took a quick look at the front for the hair and than went into the game blind. Once I played for awhile I started using the guide for fishing/bug and keeping track of catalog items.
After I found out about online stuff I started using Thonky for birthdays, coffee orders and artwork. Toy Day list on a different site. Bug/diving/Fishing site that list the times, months and weather. Not a guide but I do belong to a group of ACNL players. Ask a question and most of the time someone knows the answer. That group helped in the first year for growing hybrids and events.
I always use guides!
I mainly use Thonky, its great and has everything.
I mainly use it for todays bugs and fish (which honestly if a life savour) and for some furniture sets if im trying to complete it.
Plus i never feel guilty for using it!
I read a ACNL booklet guide thing back when I haven't even played ACNL or had a 3DS.
That was around 2012-2013. I never read it when I did get the game. First used an online guide for my face and hair! And reading about tanning (most important one!) I prefer brown skin.
Yes. Many times. Usually holidays (though I figured stuff like Festivale and Halloween out on my own), coffee combos, favored gifts, hair/eye guides... more recently, I looked up a plot reset guide because I had no idea how to do it, but I'd always learned from other people. OH, and the other day I looked up a video about how to make decent art for your QR codes. I spent all day yesterday making QR codes and am VERY pleased with the results.
I even looked up a guide for turnip prices and spikes. I've found a guide for nearly everything. Why? I don't have the patience for trial and error -- especially on stuff like turnip spikes (where you could lose up to 1-2 million) or plot resetting.
For Redds fakes and for the cafe orders at Brewster?s. I also like using aforestlife?s guide/compilation of villager house exteriors when I?m thinking of new villagers to move in. I love guides. Every game I?ll try it out without help for the first few plays but if I get stuck or confused I always research it. Plus I end up watching a lot of play throughs before buying games anyways so I already know what to expect. Guides make my gaming experiences more enjoyable. :>
Everyone uses some reference, whether it's a informative post to help them better understand something or a long butt guide. I never use guides though. I just Google answers to find stuff. Like seriously, do you think anyone knew how to breed blue roses without some kind of guidance? Probably not.
Everyone gets help in some way and those who don't are just lying. It's like the first time you fix something with your car that requires a lot of know-how. You probably looked up something just to make sure you didn't fudge up your vehicle.
I definitely used a guide when playing Animal Crossing New Leaf. Needed some assistance with Hairstyles, finding Genuine Artwork, and Coffee Orders of Villagers. I don't think I would be having fun with the game if I had to find the genuine artworks on my own as well as memorizing coffee orders of villagers. I'm really glad that there were some peeps that were willing to make a guide for others to use. I didn't really look into much when it came to house exteriors since the ones that I see in Tom Nook's were ones that I liked and purchase for my mayor's house.
I couldn't play this game without guides! Almost impossible to remember coffee preferences and their questions for april fools, and what paintings/statues are genuine or fake.
I pretty much use guides for all my games, its there for a reason (to help you duh) so yes & there's nothing wrong with using one lol
usually I do blind gameplay first then ill go again & use a guide to complete everything 100%
