I got Marshal because he was popular because even if I didn't like him I could give him to someone else. I was iffy about him, but I don't think I'm going to be keeping him. As cute as he is, I just really don't like any smugs besides Julian.

Nope, even if I have a few popular villagers I only have them because I really like how they look.
I got Marshal as my first move-in smug when I started the game and I keep him because he is adorable.
Pietro was my "dreamy" since he is so colorful and a cute clown. :0)
Bruce because he reminds me of a high school bully and I find that funny.
Ankha was in my camp and so cute I couldn't resist asking her.
Stiches because he is a teddybear!! How can I say no to that?!
ect. ect. I have all these villagers because I really like them, even if my taste is generic hahaha.

Diana's not one of my favorite villagers, but my kid sister likes her. So I keep her in my town. She's cute though, so I have no problem with her. If anything, her house is so cluttered lol.

I wouldn't have any of my villagers if I didn't legitimately like them. Although the lazies are kinda bland like someone else said and I never grew to enjoy Zucker like I had hoped to, so I'll probably let him go for another lazy soon.

All I know is that Tia and Merengue are popular... For me, I don't care about whether their popular or not, for me I guess it depends on whether I find them cute or not. By cute, I mean in terms of appearance and personality. And if they're not, there's a chance that I'll grow on them anyway

Might as well post mine.
Ankha - I really like her, and never knew of her popularity. I decided to get her because of her awesome design, and obvios reference to Egyptian Mythology. I LOVE mythology.
Marina - The octopus is my 5th favorite species of animal in the world. (Only behind #1 Lions, #2 Pandas, #3 Hippos, and #4 Platypus) Plus she is so cute.
Other popular ones I like are; Merangue, and a few others
Popular ones I don't like are; Marshall, Biskit, and a few others

I only have Marshal whom I don't care for. I got him from the campsite for a friend, and then another Marshal moved into my third town randomly AND asked to move within a week, so I gave her that version so he'd be closer to original. I still have the campsite version and he'll go when he asks to move.

Fang is quite popular but its impossible not to love that guy. He is a wolf who likes girly outfits and his growls are like lovecries. He is awesome.
Rudy might also be popular and I can see why. I like cat villagers, he looks gorgeous, he is funny as hell and really livens up the village, even though he is barely a week in my town.
Maybe Chrissy is popular? I love her, she is cute as hell and no one looks cuter chasing bugs with the net out.

I don't consider the rest of my villagers very popular.

The only two villagers I truly love from Tier One are Erik and Fauna.. I adored them before I even knew about TBT and popularity.. I just loved them 'cos they looked epic and actually looked generic, rather than just fancy colours here and there (I'm looking at you ugly Diana)

I like the majority of Tier One really, but they're not dreamy worthy.. Only ones I can't stand are Lolly, Beau, Diana and Julian

i think people like popular villagers because the mere fact that they're popular means that they'll be exposed to them a lot via other people. for instance, if you see Marshal being sold/raffled/traded often, even if you don't like him much, there's a higher chance that he'll randomly pop into your mind. in this way, a villager's popularity might affect someone subconsciously. it doesn't always happen like this with everyone tho, obviously~ every villager deserves a chance, i think. :3c (except Harry. Harry sucks)

So agreed with Diana, i had her for a brief few days in a town i kept, and her house was gorgeous, but the chime when you spoke to her and her pattern and everything ugh
i cant believe she is #3 ridiculous

I have a lot of villagers I like from previous AC's so not always because they are popular. I do like the thought of having some of the new villager whom I have never seen before and I must admit that there are a few I am interested in getting just because they are popular (like Julian and marshall) I just want to see why they are popular by interacting with them really. Otherwise popularity is just another oppinion that people have.

I love all of my villagers just the same. If you see my signature, you see that I like unpopular villagers like Clay and Gladys. I only keep Lolly because she was my first 5, otherwise she'd be out.

It kind of irks me when people like villagers just because they are popular. I can't see all these people liking the Marshmallow Squirrel.
