so i was wondering.....do you prefer towns with a set path to follow or towns where you can wander freely?

i personally have always made towns that have set paths made from bushes/QR's but have never tried no path towns...
So which do you prefer and why?

I prefer to make towns with paths. In my experience, I'd end up making my own path anyways. I also kind of stink at detailing my town, and that's be amplified with a free roaming town. Both towns are pretty and nice to visit, so there's no favorite there.

I prefer an in the middle approach. Towns with no paths often just have you wander aimlessly, and a lot of the times you can miss small details. Towns that have paths everywhere often just force you on a one-way path to see everything and it ruins the fun a little for me.

Towns that have paths, but have the option to roam around areas often are the most appealing to me.

I have what I call "organic paths". These will curve according to what ways I naturally move across my map. Basically, I tile where I know I'll be running most often. Some are straight, some arch around buildings. Blocky/right angle paths I tend to ignore or get lost on, so I usually just cut through bushes or walk on grass to get to where I need to go. Funnily enough, I do the same thing IRL.

Somewhat in the middle. Or maybe 3/4 paths and the rest free-roam. I prefer having a natural-looking town, which is why I favor single-tile paths paired with clovers to "fade" into a free-roaming area...

Now that I think about that, that would a path either way lol. So I guess path?

I've never made paths for my towns but then I've never really tried 'making' a town. I think set paths are great if you're building a town that is specifically meant for visitors via dreams because you can kind of make it into a 'tour' and build a story out of it that way, but I would never want to actually play in a town where I could only follow set paths.

I like boths...but I don't really like paths that much so I just like to do a little "road" with flowers or trees or bushes to the sides so that you know where you're going !

I love both so much (◠﹏◠✿) I like path towns because there are so many nice paths but I also love free roaming towns since there's so much small details that just make it so much better, plus you aren't really limited to where you can and can't go... I think I would have to choose free roaming towns for this one ヽ(^◇^*)/

I like towns with definite paths, but laid out so you can also wander off-path without getting stuck in a bunch of impassable trees or bushes, etc. (Fellow hackers, I'm looking at you! :p It's not generally considered great to make your town a chore to explore.)

I also like the middle ground approach. Having paths, whether they are natural/organic or rigidly defined helps guide me through a dream town, but I often hop off the paths to explore a little as well.

For my own town, I wanted to make it pathless, but due to grass erosion I've made natural paths. When I line my paths with trees and bushes, I like to space them out with flowers in between so I can still go off path if I need to for something.

i'd prefer town to have both paths ( patterns ) and tree/bush outlines of said paths.
( like i did in my town )

I've always laid out paths for my towns, whenever I try to use natural paths or bushes they never turn out the way I want them

i'm not a fan of how blocky the paths end up being because they don't blend perfectly with the grass, plus paths take so long to lay down, that i'd rather have flower patches to guide people

I prefer towns with paths because those towns almost usually always have a theme. I cannot think of a theme a town can have with no paths. Paths and patterns allow a person to be creative, which I believe is what makes Animal Crossing a great game. You?re supposed to be creative and make your town whatever you want, so use the paths feature. However, I think natural paths look very nice. I mean, the dirt paths that take forever to make, but in my opinion, those can sometimes look better than any path that can be made from a pattern.
