So I'm planning on landscaping my entire town but it seems impossible to know where to start. I'm the type of person that likes to plan it all out before starting but it doesn't seem like I can do that here... lol

Any advice or personal experience y'all can share is amazing :) thanks!

I like to make a treeline orchard running along the train tracks. Other than that, I got nothing. *shrugs*

I've had the same town for 4 years now, and I've done a lot of landscaping. I've changed my town's entire look over and over again even though I thought I had a good layout figured out. Even if you do plan it all out, you'll probably change your mind so don't get too hung up on one particular look.

That being said, I like to start with making a path/ walkway leading to all the important spots in my town. Having a path, even if you don't use an actual design, is nice because it keeps you from creating unsightly bare spots all around town. I like to line my walkway with trees, rare stumps (which takes a long time), or in Glendale, with bamboo fences.

Once the path is lined, I add pwps that help to improve my town's status. Once a considerable amount of space is taken up by pwps, and I've figured out where I want to plot reset all of my villagers (and you should definitely plot reset), I fill in space with fruit orchards, bushes and rare flowers. Sea shells, coral and mushrooms are also nice space fillers.

If you'd like, you can visit Glendale (which isn't quite finished yet), my main and oldest town, in the dream suite. My DA is in my signature :3

I visited it just now and it was beautiful! I haven't seen a town like it and it was so unique (and that's a good thing :)) Thanks for sharing!

I would start at your house so then you can go from there to see what works best for ya. From your house, I'd try to connect it to the closest bridge or lead it to the island or train station. Once you have those major spots figured out, the rest becomes much easier.

I recommend placing your flowers at the beach so it could help clear up space Or you can use them to help line up your path. It really depends on how wide you want your path to be. If you want to go all out with paths, then definitely create a second character so they can hold the QRs if you're planning on using your mayor for other QRs. I personally find it easier to use 1 or 2 QRs for paths (just because it's much easier to switch and experiment with). Once you get the path set up, then you can figure out whether you'd want to line it with bushes, trees, stumps, or flowers.

There's no wrong way to go. If you decide not to use a path, that's okay too! No paths look great if you want a natural kind of look to your town. Good luck! :)

I feel you, potatopuppy. It's so daunting of a task!

I sort of started with little spots around my town, mostly where I built PWPs. Like I found a sweet spot for the flower clock, so I cleared the surrounding area. Made it a garden with roses & and then 'closed' the area with a ring of trees. I have many spots like this around my town. Then when I built the Illuminated arch, I put it in the middle of my train station entry... lined the brick area with tulips. Then sort of built a patch with bushes. Benedict happened to move to the right of the line of bushes, so he set me up with a really nice area to start putting in a path.

Other than that, I haven't done much. I think it's a good idea to move flowers to the beach though. I don't know how many rose or pansies gardens I can have lol

I focus on a single small area at a time. I find it's a lot less daunting to completely finish a small part of the map than say, making a path that spans the entire town all at once.

i like to plan my towns out at the beginning too, but i always make sure to remain flexible, so that if something doesn't look the way i intended it to, or i want to switch something up, i have the freedom to do so without feeling frustrated that things aren't working.

i also really recommend visiting dream towns! things you see in other towns can really inspire you for parts of your own town :)

I feel the same sometimes, so this is what I do:
I dedicate days (days that I can play for a long time- like days off from school) for landscaping
I find paths because I'm a path person (I prefer tumblr)
This takes a while but I line my town with paths, I usually think of where I'm gonna put my paths when I first get my town. If you don't know where you want them at least make like main ones, (Your house, Retail,Dock, town Plaza etc)
Then after I draw on a piece of paper what I want like pwps, flower patterns.
Then I wait to obtain those things and start making what I designed on my paper.
Of course this works for me, but it might help you :)

I'd get most of my dreamies and such before I start on it serious, other than pathing and plopping down PWPs where you want since they won't move on these.

I don't have nearly as many dreamies as I would like rn but I just start with trees and generally the path I want with trees first. But I do have at least 3 or 4 villagers I want to keep.

Take it a section at a time, it's the best way to avoid going bonkers.

How I started with mine was laying a path out, and creating paths to mark where trees and bushes were going
