LAG

Personally, I don't like visiting laggy dream islands. Some times certain islands are so full of decorations that the lag and furniture makes navigating a chore, so I reset my game. I'm trying to decorate my own island in a way that has the least amount of lag, but also still looks nice. Only certain parts are mildly laggy, but it's not so bad that I feel the need to change it. Still wish this game had more variety of furniture, especially with the addition of being able to decorate the exterior. 🙁

The game just has a limit to how much it can program in a space to fit the screen. It really gets annoying when i'm visiting someone's island and it lags a TON. My island doesn't have much furniture or flowers so it doesn't lag at all.

Personally, I don't think decorations are worth having lag on your island. I remember visiting Aika's Island and I left as soon as I got there because the lag from the checkered path was so bad. LAG makes me feel like there's something wrong with the game and that it's on its last limb (not a good feeling), it also makes the game less enjoyable for me.

Replies
I have other areas where the flowers have absolutely taken over and THOSE lag a lot.
Sometimes I get lag because of my hundreds of flowers, but I love them too much to throw them away. I also have one area where the picnic basket will pop in suddenly when I walk by.
Yeahhh, flowers was the first thing to slow down my game and one of the reasons it still does lol
Oh wow I'm touched someone remembers my new leaf town haha 😳
The colors were so stunning, its a very unique town 10/10 lol
i've only ever had pop-in shadows - is that technically the same thing? i don't want to make my game lag, obviously (who does), but i definitely like the aesthetic i've started to get going with my island decoration. i know that having multiple waterfalls in one area can cause your game to stutter a bit when trying to go about that specific area, but i've never personally seen that.

would it be a good idea to start to lessen the items / decor because of the pop-in shadows? o:
I guess it counts? it happens with some of my trees.. I've never heard of waterfalls causing problems before, I know I've visited towns with them but there was equal amount of lag throughout the whole town. I find it so difficult to decorate without any lag, the towns most focused on aesthetics always lag, so ironic
I tried to lessen the decor by removing flowers and furniture around a tree and it didn't work so I ended up just embracing it, I bet the next mainline ac game will take clutter into account.
I noticed the same thing between different cliff levels. I have a cafe, garden, and ponds on the main level near Resident Services; a large spa immediately above it with trees, items, and waterfalls; and my house with a garden and more trees/flowers on the third. This is the only area where I have a lot of items condensed into a small area and experience framerate issues, so it doesn't happen often nor does it bother me. If I had to deal with it everywhere, that'd be another story though!

Bringing back an acre system reminds me of Sims 4 trying to improve the open-world performance issues from Sims 3 by having smaller neighborhoods as opposed to having the entire world open. I'd rather have the occasional 'blip' in Animal Crossing compared to a loading period per acre. I realize the Gamecube game (which I love) had acres, but there was a lot less in each.
Yeahh I only experience the cliff problem in a small area too. its crazy to see the dream towns that have pop-ins in every corner
I feel like the more I think about it the worse the loading idea sounds, rip gamecube and n64 lol
I just youtube'd some footage from the gamecube game - I'd never played it, I started with WW.

I would not like that, at all. The camera jerking across the screen when it load the new area is completely immersion breaking to me.

I do not have any spots that lag.
yep, I agree, for some reason I remember it being more of a sooth transition, the jerk breaks the camera the same way the lag does.
how much do you decorate?

I occasionally visit overly the top clutter towns but only when I have the time, it can take some patience but they tend to be really creative. instead of resetting you could use the rescue app, it sends you back to luna. I feel the same way about decorating my town. I like to believe they'll keep on adding new furniture and the old sets through updates, which they have been already. I hope they don't cut my favorite new leaf items lol

not even a tiny bit for #aesthetics ? I feel like the floor is more so an optical illusion with general pixelation
I thought Nintendo products were supposed to be more sturdy but the switch seems pretty fragile, makes me nervous ill break my town lol
My island is a slideshow, but it's worth it haha.
lol yay for exterior decorations!!

I have themed areas and lots of flowers (I'm doing a lazy man's rock garden, so I've just let the weeds and flowers do the work instead of mannequins. it hasn't worked)

my whole island is very cluttered in an organised way that they cause lag everywhere. Honestly im so used to it now i don't even notice when there's lag.

I try to decorate my island in a way where it's not too overloaded with items that the game starts lagging. I don't like having a lag at all, it's personally for me too irritating and annoying when you walk through the island, suddenly objects popping off out of nowhere and disappear once you walking away. It feels like as if the game would crash any second, it's not worth for me dealing with such an issue. Besides, I'm in general someone who prefers decent decoration for my own island, it would look for me like a mess if I would use too many items at once.

I really don’t understand how the Switch can’t handle a small island that’s heavily decorated. Pop-in I understand, but it shouldn’t be lagging the way it does.
There are some very extravagant islands that are just painful to explore because of pop-in and lag, and it just seems unfair.

I don’t have an island like that, but there’s a small area that gets noticeably sluggish, and I had no idea why. I recently dug up some flowers and it seems to have fixed the problem. Having to dig up flowers on a tropical island to negate lag. C’mon, Nintendo.

so, the usual pop-in shadow that i get for my lighthouse hasn't been popping in like normal. i haven't changed anything. any theories as to why it's running smooth today, no pop-in shadows, yet i've definitely noticed it happen before? seems so odd - especially because like i said, i haven't changed anything. in fact i think i even decorated more outside chrissy's house since the last time i saw the pop-in happen.

soweird.

sounds like a lag thing to be honest
