I don't know if anyone else is like this, but when I hear a knock on the door I'm absolutely terrified if I'm not expecting anyone. I will physically tremble and hyperventilate sometimes at the knocking of a door. I don't think this is normal for anyone, but I just panic for unknown reasons and it happens frequently in my new apartment complex.

I'm wondering if I should put a sign outside or in my window that says no solicitation because most people at more door want to through their bible at me or sell me fake magazine subscriptions for their "university clubs". Other times it's that crazy lady that knocks on everyone's door once in awhile. I don't know if many would understand that though.

Any advice or shared experiences?

i dont blame you. one time some creepy ass person tried to look through my window and repeatedly knocked on the door

You're not alone, my kid sister gets scared when someone knocks loudly on our door. Usually it's a delivery person who knocks very loud. I think it would be worth it for you to just put up a sign.

i also have mormons repeatedly harassing everyone around the neighborhood. they constantly beat your door til you open. i hope im not next

I never used to be afraid of knocks at the door, but moving to the city gave me some extremely bad experiences including a creepy couple that forced their way into my apartment because they lived their before and wanted memories or something and another college guy that also forced his way in to sell me magazines and when I said no he essentially made me cry that entire day after calling me names and making fun of my appearance. I'm not a very aggressive person, and it's hard to vocalize things. Plus this was over 5 years ago when I was barely 17 and living on my own.

Now my younger sister handles the door, but when she's not here like today I will have extremely bad panic attacks than if she answered it or where here to comfort me.

I live in an apartment and my doorbell is on the street so I always get paranoid when someone buzzes because the building doesn't have an intercom and I can't see who it is before I buzz them in. I usually don't answer if I'm not expecting anyone like a friend or a delivery. I get people spam buzzing our doorbell a lot too because my neighbours upstairs have a lot of parties and sometimes they don't hear it so they spam buzz ours or someone else instead until we open -_-; So annoying.

what the hell? i wouldve called the police on them tbh they had no right to force their way in. and that magazine guy can go **** himself. reading that made me really mad, im sorry you had to go through that. i would maybe try listening to music to block out any noise or something that lessens the fear.

It's alright, I was young and actually going through some major depression so I didn't really have much will to stop others or y'know, not cry, haha. I just think those experiences really bury deep down and make me terrified to open the door. When my little sister just moved in with me, another one of those college guys conned her into buying fake sewing magazines which she never received and I was more angry about it then scared.

That was probably the only incident where I did answer the door for a few brief months in hopes of getting the same guy to punch him in the face for messing with my little sister, making her upset, and stealing her money.

what is wrong with people?? i dont open my door if people are selling things and i dont open especially when i dont know them. in my town, some guy disguised himself as a cable guy and a girl opened the door and he assaulted her. the world is pretty scary.

I'm not really afraid of assault, but I fear verbal abuse the most. So people like bible preachers on my religious choices, con-artist salesman telling you blatantly fake lies, these type of people. I think what scared me most is whoever knocked on the door tried to open my door. o.O

I live in an apartment and I really hate door knocker! Cause I am afraid that some foreign strangers purposely knock our door to check out who's living inside their house and probably see omly girls and might break in or something >< Unless I know my friend is coming and I will happily knock the door but really hate and scare when someone suddenly knock at 2am in the morning!! Could be some drunker and sometimes strangers who mistaken their friend's house but still scary...

And if I stay at home I will not open my door for anyone, just anyone who knock the door but I will peek through the window but freak out when they notice me! Is not like I have any anxiety of this but the crime rate around my country goes so high and scary so most of the time I am really aware bout stranger. Sometimes people just try to help me but I never thanks them and look at them like some sort of scary jerk lol
