Kind of got scammed, feeling bummed

Well it finally happened, after all my trading and buying from Nookazon I got a bad trade. Probably my own fault for going through the discord where you cannot see what kind reviews people have. I was looking for ungifted Genji because he looks like my beloved 12 year old rabbit in real life who just recently passed. It was a sort of memorial to him. Someone contacted me asking how many NMT I had to give, I said I would give 80 for ungifted Genji. They said he was ungifted and they would use an amiibo to kick him out.

About an hour later I head to their Island. Everything is going fine, drop the tickets. When I go into Genji's house he is wearing a different oufit. I should of refused but they already took the tickets so I just took him and messaged them on discord saying he wasn't ungifted. They responded "oh yeah sorry, lol" Not really a great response to someone who spent 80 NMT for ungifted and you "forgot" they weren't actually.

Now Genji is on my Island. Looking at him reminds me of my bunny which is bittersweet. He is wearing yet another random pink outfit and I'm just feeling really bummed. I wanted to be the one to gift Genji things that I would like to see him wearing. Now I will have to go through a big process to try and replace him with a truly ungifted Genji because I'm just not happy with what he has been given. Sorry, there really isn't a point to this thread. Just needed to vent.

I’m sorry that happened Thats exactly how I feel about Dotty because she looks like my irl bunny. I can get you Genji with an amiibo as soon as you have an open space if you’d like. I think if you gift him a new shirt he may stop wearing the old one, but I’m not sure.

That is never fun when something like that happens, someone did that to my wife with Julian and it really upset me! I can donate NMT's if you want, so that way you can find him again once you get rid of him!

Oh I commented too late! <33 The person above is so kind! Good luck getting Genji out and getting him again, you definitely deserve it! I don't understand how people can be okay with lying.

Ugh I'm sorry this happened to you. Villager trading can be such a nightmare sometimes... I got a Diana with gifted clothing and although I really tried to be okay with it, I just couldn't get over it. Complaining to Isabelle wasn't a permanent fix (maybe the recent update fixed the bug?) and when Diana asked to move, I had no hesitation to let her go.

I know that there are a lot of people on TBT that would be happy to help out with cycling/amiibo for way less than 80 NMT if you do end up giving up on this Genji.

You should 100% report him to the moderators of Nookazon! They will ban the user from the site and the discord. I am so sorry to hear you got scammed!

I'm sorry to hear that next time, when you see the red flags, don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and refuse the trade. Even if they already took the NMT, the moment you realized they "forgot" or outright lied about him being invited, just put your switch to sleep. It should revert the NMT trade and send you back to your island. Then you can report them and call them out on it. It really sucks when people don't put in any care and effort on their end of trades.. hope you can find another ungifted Genji and that it goes better than this!

So sorry about this. I dislike discord and only use it as a last resort if I can't find what I want on reddit or here. Unfortunately, talking to Isabelle won't reset the outfits forever (it's only for a day I think). Hopefully you can see past it or look for an original Genji in the future.

If I were in your shoes, I would just give clothing to them that you liked every day to cycle the other clothes out. It worked for me with Rowan when I accidentally told him to wear a blue fairy dress. He’s such an outdoors jock type and it didn’t seem to be practical for him. He hasn’t worn it in a loooooong time because I gave him other clothes to wear. I don’t think he has it anymore

If complaining to Isabelle doesn't help, try gifting him his default outfit to cycle the unwanted ones out. Though he may display it in his house. I can't remember if there was a trick to it or not.

Yeah same here. I try to avoid nookazons and more "3rd party" sites because they definitely seem a bit shady to me.

So, the only problem is the outfit? Why don't you just gift him all the clothes that you like? The pink top you don't like should be gone fairly quickly since his favorite colors are green and purple.

When I got Julia from someone, she had on a QR shirt when she came to my island. I went to Isabelle and did the report clothes thing with her and Julia never wore the shirt again. I'm not sure if it's only for QR but any random clothing, but I heard it completely resets the clothing to their defaults.
