Good afternoon folks,
Five days ago I posted about an issue with my switch lite left joystick not registering input correctly.
Here is the original post which has a video showing the issue : https://www.belltreeforums.com/threads/can-i-save-transfer-my-island.524141/#post-8861029
One poster (Randomforeignguy) in that thread did mention they had heard using WD-40 could help.
I looked around about this and other options and decided to give it a go.
I did this last Friday as I had to order the products.
After completely turning off my lite, I did two things :
First I used a can of compressed air to give a good blast around all sections of the stick by putting the nozzle under the little rubber guard flap around the sticks base, in case of dust/general dirt etc.
Ensure that only air is being sprayed when you begin.
(The first few sprays I did into a bin as even after shaking there was still liquid released in the first few sprays)
I then used WD-40 specialist fast drying contact cleaner which is designed to be used on electronics (not the standard WD-40) using a short spray (note very short spray, literally a tap and release) into each side of the stick. And then used the stick to ensure it was distributed around.
(This spray is a liquid when used, do not panic it is meant to be. It will dry completely and leave no residue/stains)
It was then left for an hour to ensure it was completely dry.
I can report the issue was immediately corrected when I turned it back on.
Has it completely fixed it?
Well no, on Sunday evening I began to notice the issue very very rarely. And upto now it is no way near as bad as it was originally. So overall I think a success. Certainly cheaper/easier than buying a new switch or sending it for repair.
If it does deteriorate I know I can do the process again.
Please note I am not in any way an engineer or specialist in electronics and I attempted this fully aware I could make things worse or even break the console as well invalidate any type of warranty I may have.
I decided to post just to give people some information if they are researching this problem themselves.
Please do not take this post as a guaranteed fix, and know if you do try this then it is at your own risk.
Any younger members reading this should speak to their parents first
Sorry for the long post
I do hope this is of interest to someone though
