It's Official: My Island Is A Mess

Trees everywhere, I'm surprised Isabelle doesn't mention clutter when I check to see if I have a three star rating. Flowers allllll over the place, there's hardly much room to run right now. I REALLY need to clean up my island. How's the state of nature on your island, now that Nature Day (but is it really just a day? ) has started?

I stole so many flowers in the first week from NMT islands to decorate my island with but now I've started properly planning my layout, it's a pain in the ,,,!!!!!
I moved ALL of my flowers on the beach and now the beach is littered with flowers. I have bamboo trees and random fruit trees EVERYWHERE. I don't want to chop the fruit trees down so I just plopped them in random places lol

I've cleaned up so many trees since though, I'm realising less is more with my island because I have way too many flowers and had way too many trees

If you're struggling, don't worry. I find that a lot of people want their islands to look a certain way ASAP. But consider how this entire process is long-term. Also keep in mind the new (alleged) builds coming in future updates, that'll change many islands. So, I would say don't sweat it so much.

As for the current state of mine? It depends on which tier of hills we're talking about. I've kept my middle tier more "wild-ish" (filled with weeds and branches) because it's more of a forest. Everything else is, more or less, kept tidy. I'm trying to build a park but I have my own home in the way, lol, so it's in the middle of me trying to work on that lol.

I plan to dig up some fruit trees and replant them as orchards (everything but coconuts, since I'm spreading them across the beach) but I got lucky with Leif today and he was selling roses, which are a flower I want on my island so I made some red x red, red x white and red x yellow gardens to try my hand at making hybrid roses.

But I also want to add lily gardens in 3 x 3 beds (my native flower) and hyacinth beds. The mess comes from the fact that I'm still growing blue and orange hyacinth and orange lilies. It's so cluttered up, I just want fertilizer back so I can start cleaning up sooner lol.

I got crap laying everywhere, bunch of hyrbids all over my town with no proper placing, tried to make a nice little animal village space but then found out i could only have a max of 8 inclines and I’ve used them all already. I wanna restart but that means unlocking everything again and getting diys and i need to move all my money ;-; too much hassel. So i have to spend time now, the idiot i am for not thinking through, knocking down cliffs and etc

I'm keeping the second and third tiers a bit more wild-ish with the weeds too, but I'm thinking cleaning up a few weeds here and there. Haven't decided yet.

I couldn't get 5 stars for a while because Isabelle kept telling me I had too many trees when I felt like I had a good amount. ^^;; Got that cleared up but my town is getting overrun by flowers. I think I break shovels like twice a day trying to clean up any new growth or getting rid of basic colors to expand new hybrids. I don't even know where I want to put the hybrids so they're kinda going wild xD

I'd love to add more weeds to places since they do look pretty nice but I have a habit of automatically picking them up. I have a few around a waterfall area and I'm getting better at not grabbing those.

I actually had to thin out my trees the other day. There's 2 player characters on my island and we've each been planting money trees every single day. There was getting to be so many trees that it was getting hard to move around.

I'm super overwhelmed with flowers and hybrids. I've taken to just giving away all my hybrids to my friends and begging them to take them, since it feels like a waste to sell them but I don't care for any colours except blue or black. I really wish my island was bigger, I never feel like I have enough room.

I know the feeling about the island size. I feel like 64 acres minimum would've been much better. Hybrids can be a pain to grow too. Once I have nine of a hybrid I start making 3 x 3 beds for the hybrid and the parent colors. So I'll have extra flowers to sell or give away once I get the remaining hyacinth and lily colors I need. Then do it all again with the roses.

I was waiting to see if the Nooklings would offer them after the expanded store opens for me tomorrow, but Leif was selling them so I bought em up!

Lol usually if I get weeds when using my tickets I just sell them to finish off the Greedy Weeder achievement. I de-weeded my main ground level tier and stored those in my storage for DIY projects.

Ah warned ya about playing that curse-ed board game! Lucky you didn't get trapped in there for decades lol.

My island is slowly becoming presentable. I just laid down the last red zen bridge I had in the blueprints, but I don't like where I put it (and auto save kicked in) so I might just place another one where my former log bridge stood and then demolish the misplaced one. Depends on whether or not it actually looks good that close to the campsite.

Me too. The weeds in this game are so pretty.


The more I develop my island, the worse it gets for "extra" space. Areas that I'm not actively working on improving are covered in flowers and trees which are especially a pain since you can only hold so many in your inventory. I wish we could have an outdoor storage space/greenhouse for trees we want to keep and move around, but don't have space for at the moment. And flowers take up so much inventory space! I wish we could stack them.

Yeah, I've been trying to avoid selling my fruit trees and just kept them in a small corner 'just in case'. But now they're starting to get super crowded and I want to do a project there, so I just bit the bullet and sell pretty much every tree except cedars or fruits that aren't my native. It's sooo annoying but not much you can do until they let us store trees

I'm still in shock that you can no longer put flowers in your house, or store them. When I first dug some flowers up with intent to store them in my house I got the "You can't use this item now" message you get with tools when I tried to select a flower inside my house.

Yeah not sure why they chose to do that. I just miss how fast moving flowers used to be, now it takes me 3 shovels and 4x longer to do

I have so many extra base flowers it's not even funny. I just want to give them away, but I think it'll take too long to get enough folk to give them away to considering a lot of people are running into the same issue. I might just trash them honestly since so many people don't need the base flowers anymore. I feel bad doing that, but they're starting to feel like weeds now.

I hardly have any space to put my new hybrids when they come, and I need them all grouped so that when I'm done breeding them, I can move them and start working on the areas in which I had them breeding in.

If I could just store them, it wouldn't be so much of an issue.
