Never noticed this, I thought the island name was just Ninten!

I don't think anyone's posted this so this'll clear this up for a lot of people!

neat! my island name only requires eight characters but i’m glad for those who wanted the increase!

throughout the direct, however, the island was shortened to Ninten during dialog moments, so i’m hoping longer names don’t get cut off.

This is great! Now those that name their town Smashville won’t annoy me with just one L.

At least it's a decent amount to work with. I won't be able to name my place Platypus Cove like I wish I could...but, eh. Cest la vie.

I'll think of something, I'm sure. :3

Thanks for sharing the pic! :D

No worries :)

I might be more than 10, but I think it's most likely the cap is at 10. We won't know for sure until it releases that's for certain.

It'd be nice if they made it at least 12 (cause I know some people want longer names), but I just needed one more character for Daguerreo...and looks like Nintendo has finally granted my wish!

Nice. The name I'd been thinking of has ten characters so that would be great.

I was just thinking about what I wanted my town name to be and was wondering what the maximum character space was. I remember it being "Ninten" from the direct though, so I didn't know.

All my names have been only 7 characters—including the one for my Island—but I'm glad others will get more flexibility to work with. Just a few added characters really opens up our options!

I need at least 11 for the name I currently like best, so I'm hoping it'll actually be longer, but at least there's still another month to choose a backup name.

I was going to call my island Purgatory, but since we can have ten, I might name it Parabellum.

I wasn't too worried seeing as my island name only needs 6. Glad to see it's potentially 10.

That might not be the case tho.

The above image is from the Japanese version of the direct. Assuming that this character means "land" or something similar (it would be great if someone who knew Japanese could translate), land might just be an automatically added suffix and doesn't count towards the character limit.

It would be cool if you could use foreign alphabets too, instead of the territorial ones that come with the NA (or other) version of the game

Just to confirm, 島 (dou) means island. I think it could still a possibility for a suffix though I think they used an English Ninten and added the island to it. :}
