Island hoppers, which villager did you get the closest to claiming but ultimately passed on? Do you regret it?

I haven't gone island hopping in a while because my villager luck has been pretty great online and my last move-in was through the campsite, but I was curious to see what kinds of villagers you guys have come really close to taking in, but reluctantly turned down, and how you feel about it now.

For me, I had a hard time with Rosie. The night before I got Audie online, I was concerned that the person I would adopt her from ghosted me, so I bought a few tickets and did some island hopping to see if I could find someone I liked on equal par with Audie. On my very last ticket, I stumbled across Rosie. I was so, so, so tempted to take her because she's one of the better cats imo, but decided against it because I really wanted Audie above all else and had to take that chance to see if I could still get her. Lo and behold, I did, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Rosie's great and I'd still consider her if Bianca ever left (which wouldn't be for a long time most likely), but I'm very happy I turned her down and got Audie instead, because she has quickly become one of my favorites.

I had a similar experience. I got most of my villagers through my own amiibo or from trades but hopping from island to island I had a chance to get Ruby. Probably the cutest rabbit aside from Francine. I really wanted to take her in but I was only getting resources and unless I stumbled across Cyd I was going to see if anybody was giving him away. A part of me regrets it but at the same time Cyd is my boy and I wouldn't trade him for the world. If someone were to move out say Bam or Tia (once I get their photos) I'd consider getting Ruby.

It was Zell and Chrissy for the mystery island, I was looking for a cranky and stumbled on those two, but I gave up. I don't regret it though actually, they might show up again anyway.

I have used well over 200 tickets looking for Candi the peppy mouse but the hardest villagers to turn down for me were Ankha (twice ;-,) Maple a few times, Pietro, Curlos (My favourite sheep and second favourite smug), Canberra (the best uchi sorry) and Deirdre. Although I have found a ton of villagers these are probably the ones that hurt the most

For me, I turned down Fauna once, and I was filled with regret! I feel better now though. Today, I got Audie, but I turned down Marina twice, and Merengue once. I wish I could've taken all three.

i saw audie twice i was on a mission for another villager and literally had 9 slots full so i couldnt get her and i was sooo sad

For me it was Bettina the mouse. she was so cute. I too was looking for certain villagers(Molly,Stitches) and I was only on my 5th island so I let her go. I didn't find anyone I liked that night and ended up with a voided villager the next who I'm still trying to get rid of. I still regret not taking her but I just got Molly so I'm happy for that. After that I decided that when I go island hopping it won't be for someone specific. If I find someone I want great(that's how I got Molly) but if I find someone I like I am taking them regardless.

I came really close to taking Skye when I found her on my hunt for Lucy early on but passed and did not regret it. I had Skye back in NL for a period of time and she was so cute and sweet and her Time Capsule had such a touching note in it. I forgot I had buried it for her and she asked me to dig it up and keep the contents after she moved out of my town. There was a piece of clothing in the capsule and I remember the note she left for herself basically said "When you see this again, remember that you were loved" and I'm like, cri. While I do have fond memories of her though, I've since moved on and I'm okay just knowing that she's loved by someone else lol. Sometimes these games just get to us.

i came really close to inviting sylvana a few weeks back. i’ve never really cared for her but after seeing her in-game she grew on me a bit. i ultimately didn’t invite her and i kinda regret it a bit aha

Erik. The only reason I passed on him was I was trying to complete all the personalities and I needed a sisterly or snooty villager. I kinda regret it because the lazy I had was one I was planning on letting leave anyway. I did end up with Pashmina who I wasn’t really looking for but ended up really liking and then the next day I got Freya on my campsite so I guess it all worked out.

I did end up with Pashmina who I wasn’t really looking for but ended up really liking and then the next day I got Freya on my campsite so I guess it all worked out.

I totally feel this one! I tend to give up on villagers because I have too many of the same villager personalities.

I passed up both Audie and Meringue while island hopping. Deirdra had just moved out, and I was looking for a cat villager to get me closer to my goal of having an all cat village. About 20 tickets in, I got really sick and had to stop playing. Imagine my surprise when I turned on the game two days later and saw Rasher walking around my island. He was from someone else's island and decided to put his stinky house on my island. I was so mad. I had him in my first town on gamecube, and he bullied all of my villagers and made Punchy cry. Nobody makes Punchy cry! Now I'm stuck with him on my island until I'm lucky enough to get a camper, or he just decides to move. He'd better not be mean to Moe, or I'm going to break out the pitfall seeds. I'm already debating whether to fence his house in so he can't get out. Payback for Punchy! Anyways, if I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten Audie so fast.

Merengue. I was on the hunt for Merry and got Merengue early on so I thought I was having good luck but it went downhill from there lol Luckily I was able to get Skye after wasting so many nook miles tickets!

Tucker tbh. I love mammoths, and I stay on islands with him on it for 30 mins asking "do I want him?" and then regretting it when I leave lol

As of recently, Punchy was the hardest to turn down. I've kinda decided that I'm going to take him if/when I see him again and work towards his picture. During the hunt that I turned down Punchy, I at least ended up getting Genji.. who was on my list of takes. I've been working towards picture gathering of my favorites for a while now. Once I get Genji's pic, I'll probably let him go and go hunting again.

Fauna (I already have two normals and they’re pretty boring to have three of them around). Also, Bunnie. I wanted her so bad. But I already have Bluebear and peppies tend to get on my nerve if there’s too many of them. I can’t handle two of that personality.

Chevre. I didn't want three normal villagers on my island. I don't regret it though. I'm planning on saving tickets and trying again after my current normal moves out.

too many. Blaire, Craston, Dobie, Ribbot, Hugh on mystery islands and Rodeo, Genji, Frita and Dobie again on campsite.
I don't regret any of them, except Genji, kind of. I like way too many villagers and there isn't enough space. By that time I found Genji, the last spot was for Ankha and Ankha only, not doing comprimises. BUT I had Wolfgang by that time and I had too crankies and even so I absolute adore crankies, they are wayyy too repetitive. I should have just replaced him with Genji but I wasn't feeling like it by that time.
Also the island hopping, I kinda regret all of them except Blaire because I ended up inviting Marina, it was my last ticket. I don't like her that much, she's cute but meh. I don't regret Blaire bc having a snooty would have ruined campsite method for Ankha. But I am pleased with my island rn and I wouldnt have any of them except maybe Cranston.
