Thonky is not cheating, especially when you need help on the HHA theme challenges. They have a lot of errors in their guide. For example, they renamed some furniture series such as the Trump Series instead of Card Series, Scandinavian Series instead of Alpine Series, and Near-future Series instead of Astro Series. And when they named the theme challenge furniture, they got the Quirky and Harmonious theme challenge furniture mixed. Liquefy's guide on GameFAQs is more reliable for information on the parts Thonky screws up in.

That, and even using a guide that is 100% accurate isn't cheating in general.

I don't think it's cheating, it's just a helpful guide. It's saved me during certain events.

To sum it up - no, it is isn't cheating. If Thonky was cheating, the Prima Guide for AC would also be cheating and basically the whole internet would be cheating because you can look things up. I've used Thonky and other guides a bit and they do help alot. :)

How is a GUIDE even meant to be cheating...? It's not as if it's on the same level as power saves or duping.
If Thonky is considered cheating then what the heck is the prima guide?

I don't think it's cheating. There are things I never check because it's more fun to figure out by myself, but sometimes it's useful if you're playing an event for a specific purpose and just need to get things done.

or when you're trying to give a villager something they would really like for their birthday, that's what i mainly use it for.

Not really. Not everyone can remember anything. I hardly do/did the events and stuff so I don't really judge people how they play.

Because of the game's nature, using a guide like Thonky isn't even cheating at all. Guides are helpful here because there's a good amount of Guide Dang It cases. Sometimes, the game never bothered to explain the unheard details on some parts. How can an average gamer figure out whether a painting is fake or not without peeking in a guide? How could they figure out on how to obtain every single Flower Series item without resorting to online resources? Otherwise, figuring them out would naturally require an ungodly amount of trials and errors to fully understand what's actually going on.

I guess it really depends on what your definition of "cheating" in AC:NL is... personally, I have the Prima Guide and I've used Thonky before and I don't consider myself a cheater. However, when it comes other games like the Legend of Zelda I get really annoyed with myself if I have to look at the guide LOL. So it all depends on your perspective.

No. There are a lot of reasons why I do not think it is cheating but most have been stated. The part that helped me was how to prepare coffee orders at Brewsters. I loved having happy customers!

It's not cheating. It's just checking and making it easier. But I still choose not to do it because I believe the game is too easy that way...

Naw, dude. Animal Crossing is typically relaxing, except for golden stag hunting, never golden stag hunting. If remembering tiny details doesn't come easy, then who cares if you use a guide? I sure as heck(home loans) use them.

it's like using a guide or a walkthough, probably most people use them at times on certain games, I wouldn't consider that as cheating..
cheating is when you do things to "skip" certain tasks you're supposed to do..

I see it as cheating because the point of the game is that you remember what they order/what they're scared of. Looking it up on Thonky defeats the point.
